How are you surprising them?

We are surprising our two girls this December with a trip. We have gone for the past two years for the week of Thanksgiving, but this year we are getting them up super early the first morning of our winter break to whisk them to the airport and go to WDW. Still brainstorming on how to tell them/present it. Maybe pack them each a new small bag for the plane ride and have it wrapped for them to open that early?

We are only 6 days away from breaking it to the kids. The excitement just builds and builds! It's getting so hard to keep it a surprise. There have been several "slip-ups" we've had to cover for. They still don't have a clue! I can't believe it will be here so soon! My sister already starts tearing up when I tell her how we are surprising them.... now if I can only keep her from ruining it! The best part is the kids think we are going on a plane without them- they LOVE flying- and always get sad when DH goes on a business trip without them. I pick up their T-shirts tomorrow! Hope I can get them wrapped before they see them!

In June 2010, my husband, parents, DNeice18 and I surprised my DS12, DS9 and DD5 and my Dniece14 and Dnep10 with a WDW trip. We told them we were packing for a weekend trip to watch Dneice18 play in a softball tournament which we do each June. Instead, they woke up to a scavenger hunt to which they had to solve a riddle to find the next clue. The last clue revealed the surprise and there was lots of screaming and yelling and "I can't believe we pulled it off". :rotfl: We had so much fun planning that trip and just being together. This year for Christmas, we decided to surprise them again but this year DNiece 18 will be suprised too. We are planning a fake "June 2012" trip so if the kids hear us discussing it, they will think it is for next summer. I have asked them where they want to eat and what extra activities they want to do. :rolleyes1 We are allowing each to choose 2 extras such as horseback riding, pick a pearl, BBB, and pirates league. These will be part of their Christmas presents. We are revealing the surprise the weekend before Christmas since my parents always come to celebrate with us on that weekend. We are doing all of our traditional activities such as going to church as a family, gathering for a special meal and then opening presents. We wrote a 6 stanza poem and cut it into the 6 pieces. Each piece will be wrapped indivudually for each child to open starting with the 18, 14, 11, 10, 9 and 5 year old to open. The last stanza reveals the surprise. The rest of the Christmas presents are all Disney related- the activities that they chose, autograph books, disney pens, matching t-shirts, etc. We are also bringing a small Christmas tree to put in our resort rooms so Santa can leave presents on Christmas morning (2 for each child and it will be something they ask Santa for). So our kids are being surprised with a Disney Christmas trip as a present from their parents and grandparents. I can't wait to reveal this and see the excitement on their faces. :yay: They have always wanted to go at Christmas and know that my Dad does not like cold weather so will never go to Disney at Christmas--LOL except for this year!!!!!! :dance3:

I am planning on surprising my wife this Christmas with a 7 day trip to Disney World near the end of Jan. 2012.

...

Christmas morning she will open a few gifts initially, ideally each gift will be somewhat specific of one of the theme parks. So perhaps slippers for Magic Kingdom (Cinderella.....get it?), A new camera (Epcot, travel), perhaps a new Blu-ray (Hollywood studios)...Im stuck on Animal Kingdom, but I'll figure it out. Lastly there will be 2 gifts remaining.

I haven't even read all of the posts in this thread so this might have been suggested but thought of it instantly as soon as I read this...

"animal print shoes" a cute ballet pump or sexy court shoe?

Snow xx

DD & I started planning in January,GS doesn't know about trip as he is only 3 right now & will drive all of us crazy till the trip. His 4th birthday is day after Xmas, not a good time to go,so we will be leaving after Thanksgiving just a few weeks early. He & his parents will leave Sunday morning, still not knowing anything about the trip. My DH & I will leave later that day, he doens't know we will be there. We all plan breakfast at Boma, as we are staying at AKL.imagine his surprise , when he see Nannie & PopPop. Then off to MK for the day & more surprises.

I love reading how everyone has - and will - surprise whomever they are taking to the most magical place on earth.

Our boys talk about Disney almost every day. They don't think we are going until October 2012 - and I cannot wait to surprise them next month. It's getting harder and harder for me to keep quiet. Everytime they mention going to Disney, or missing Disney....I want to tell them.

I know how you feel, we leave in 2 weeks and 4 days, the only thing that has saved me is wanting to tell the kids all at the same time. We only have my husbands kids every other weekend and we haven't had all 3 of the kids together for a few months. This weekend they will be all together and I am thinking of giving them 1 of their surprises (telling them we are going to Disney instead of Myrtle Beach) but don't want to tell them the rest of it or have them figure it out before we leave. (staying at BC instead of POP). Not sure what I am going to do, but need to make sure their books are together just incase we tell them this weekend.

We are taking our 6 year old twin sons to Disney for the first time late January into early February. They will be celebrating their birthdays at Disney. I am not 100% sure if we will do it this way, but for now, unless something else comes to mind, this is it: We will, in the car on the way to the airport, give them an invitation to show them how and where we will be celebrating their 7th birthday. I'll know which park we will be in that day and I will tailor the invitation to that park. Hopefully we don't slip earlier - can't wait to see the looks on their faces!!!

I'm going to make DD and DS each a countdown chain and wrap it up to give to them on Christmas morning. I'm also going to put a book about taking a first airplane ride in each box.

We are suprising are 4 kids in september with a two week vacation. We are leaving 3 days after my birthday so i'm going to tell them that we're doing something special for my birthday on saturday (like bowling or movies) and that we will do a game to find out what. I have a treasure hunt ready for them (on friday) and in the chest will be a note (surprise we're going to Disney World - tomorow). The treasure hunt is going to be outside so by the time we come back in, my husband will have put all of the luggage in the dining room (for all the non-believers) :thumbsup2.

I've already told my DS that when I get out of the military next year, we're going to WDW. However, I'm also planning a trip for this September. We're staying at Shades of Green and I've been told that it's not really themed to Disney. I'm just going to tell him that we're driving down to visit an uncle who lives in Orlando (there actually is one too!) that he's never met. I think that I can probably keep him distracted enough so that he won't know what's going on until we get to the actual parks!

It has been 17 months in the making. The players have changed a bit, but the trip remains the same! My son is 5 and as you may know, a 5 year old has the patience of a mayflies life, so I CAN'T tell him when we are going.

I plan to wake him up on his normal school day September 22nd. I will record it with my flip camera. I'll give him a minute or three to wake up and get out of bed, then tell him where we are going.

A side note, I took a look at the Adventures By Disney thread a while ago, and now my reluctance to spend so much money on a Deluxe trip to WDW seems like a trip to Walmart. OMG the prices are high! I know, I know, its a very quality trip. And I know they are not looking at me as their target audience anyway. [ I don't make enough money] But this 9 day Deluxe trip to WDW is going to seem to be a steal now!:woohoo:

My DB and DSIL surprised my two nieces (8 and 4 1/2) when we went in June by telling them they were going to the beach here in Daytona for a few day. They live on the west coast of FL. As they got closer to Orlando they told the girls where the were going. The oldest was very excited and the youngest started to cry because she wanted to go to the beach. They had a wonderful four days and I go to join them for two of them. Can't wait to see what the DB and DSIL do for the next trip.

We are going on a non Disney cruise in August. That part all of the kids know about. We live on the west coast so will be flying. But in February we decided to do 6 days at DW before the cruise. So its all set, my DD4, DD6, DS11, DD14 don't know about it. I want to surprise them next Friday (a week before we leave), so they can look at the things they want to do, so we don't skip any of the things they really want. Not sure exactly how to surprise them though. I have toyed with the idea of a puzzle, where they find clues and have to unscramble the letters to make words to figure it out. We also will have goodie bags with Disney stuff in them for each. But my husband just came home today and may have to leave town early next week and be gone til our trip, so may have to move the date up. I can't wait to see their excitement!! None of us have EVER been to DW and I am so excited to share it with them.
