How are we feeling about Le Cellier??

We just went for dinner since it went to 2TS, and to be honest, I just don't think we'll go back. To be fair, the steak was by the far the BEST steak we have ever had--and DH said it was as good as any NY steakhouse--but it's just not a great experience anymore. I was surprised to see that really nothing about the inside has changed, and I think as soon as you know it's 2TS, you're expecting something a little nicer all around.

The service was just fine, but we were surrounded by families with kids watching iPads and iPhones (not all were even using earphones)--we went with DD7 and DS 10 but would never allow them to do that at a restaurant. I just think with the theming not being that great, and it feeling like just some regular restaurant that happens to have great steak, we will skip it next time. If on DDP, I'd rather go to California Grill or something. Even the restaurant at Italy feels so much nicer.

I was just disappointed--the only other 2TS in a park we've been to are CRT (which obviously is ridiculous but you're not doing it for you!!) and Brown Derby. Brown Derby had a very elegant feel to it--just don't think the same is true for Le Cellier-think we'll be going elsewhere next time!

I completely agree..We went last year before it was 2 credits..and didnt see the hype..I will never go back because its 2 TS now. The steak was average at best,,the food was average..everything average..being from Nebraska..I have the best steak all the time..so this steak was average to me. SHula's has the best in town. I guess I'm picky about steak. the atmosphere is just average..SO i guess in a word it is average.

I couldnt agree more! I really dont get the hype about this place AT ALL. My steak was average at best, the soup was meh. Ive had much better in my hometown! The bread sticks werent anything special. I definitely have no plans on returning. If you want steak, go to Cali Grill (YUM!) or Yachtsman or Shula's! But not LC.

Did i mention how much i think the atmosphere stinks? Tables are way too close together too!

As a Canadian, i gotta say im very disappointed. Lol.

If it had great steak, I'd be happy with it. Truthfully, I find the steak quite subpar compared to other true steakhouses. They don't use prime cuts of beef. (Of course, if they did, it would be much more expensive). The only "steakhouses" that I would say it can equate with, are (not really steakhouses) Applebee's and Outback.

Morton's, Ruth Chris, Bern's, BLT, Smith & Wollinsky, Peter Lugar, Sparks, Craft Steak--- are all vastly superior steak.

The place is always lauded by those - frankly - who don't seem to have access to any good food at home. (my opinion...don't shoot)

Case in point: I'm originally from Pittsburgh...and i had to get out of there to realize that the food is just not good....no ethnic food, nothing unique...just bad.

There's still hour long waits outside of the Olive Garden on Greentree Hill on Fridays...proof you don't know what good food is.

Anyway...le cellier seems real "neat" if you don't have good flavor and selection around you...but it's really not nor ever has been.

I did notice that the 2 credits have brought the demand down...as it is available now on the reservations system as much as the others.

Personally I never found it worthy of the hype ..even before it was 2 TS pp..I found better steaks at home and at local places

Totally agree...

Disney has cheapened and downgraded its food by slinging the same quality (not exceptional) meats to all of the table reastaurants - purchased en masse to save a couple of cents a pound.

knowing this...there's no way you can have a true "steakhouse"...becase a steak experience is governed by the quality of the cut much moreso than anyway you can cook it or serve it.

yachtsmans tries....but they don't have high quality beef. the other "signatures" deliver decent steak...but it is interchangeable between any one of thier kitchens....order the filet at Boma, eat the strip at Citricos...doesn't matter at all.

V&A's still has a little freedom to order what they want...but its of course cost prohibitive and the menu is at chef's discretion...which is great but you go for the experience, not to fill up on ribeye.

Ah! I was just wondering this myself. I booked lunch reservations here because my husband loves steak, but I'll only eat it if it's so tender you can cut it with a fork. So the only places I've been able to eat it at are Shula's and the Capital Grille. I was wondering if the steak at LC was on par with that, or if the people who are saying the steaks are incredible have never really eaten truly incredible steak.

I got the feeling the last time I was there I was very underwhelmed, because it was so long ago. If I'd loved it, I'm sure I would have gone back again.

Maybe I'll still try it, just for the husband. Is lunch still one credit?

then you might want to avoid it...

on our last trip there....2010 i think...not only did i have - as others have said - outback quality steak...but my wife ordered mussels, and when they came out it had smelled as if they were caught in 2009. not only that, but they were large and falling apart...not what PEIs should look like.

We politely pointed out that they were not edible...and the "Canadian" server informed us that they were the way they're supposed to be...

"mussels are absolutely fishy" she said.

so i (slightly less politely) informed her that i eat probably about 1500 of these suckers every summer on the jersey shore and they sure as hell aren't fishy.

Perhaps if she was from Nova Scotia instead of Alberta...moose country

Haha, I'm a Jersey girl myself. I gotcha. Even more so than steaks, one's definition of "good seafood" varies tremendously upon where you live, and is very hard to find at Disney. I think I'll be staying away from Coral Reef, too.

Yes it is still one credit. That is what we have done for our next trip, booked it for lunch.:)

Now it has been a couple of years, but the last time I had the fillet I could cut it with my fork. Hopefully that hasn't changed, becasue that is what I've been dreaming about--the mushroom fillet. It was soo good before, so I hope it still is.

Interesting comments as I was there about 6 months ago and a year ago and the filet melted in your mouth and you could cut it with a fork. I won't eat steak out except for a steak house and usually grill myself as I can't stand subpar steaks. I did try a steak at Chef de France and it was ok nothing more than that.

I have reservations for this Saturday so hopefully we will have a great experience and I didn't "just get lucky" the last few times. Yes it is pricey but I like the atmosphere....however YES the tables are too close together.

LOL! :rotfl2: We had a similiar experience there, won't go back again..I think it's the servers. I ordered my prime rib medium rare, it came out raw. I tried to have the waiter send it back, he tried to tell me what medium rare is and how it's slow roasted for 3 hours. I'm like, that's how I always eat my red meat, I know what it is, and this ain't it! A server should never argue with the customer, just say I'm sorry and take it back. Total experience was bad, I'm just mad I didn't speak to a manager before we left.

Or closer to WDW ... Shula's and the Yachtsman Steakhouse. Honestly, I had a better steak at the Coral Reef in 2010 than I ever had at Le Cellier.

My DH and I love Le Cellier. Our steaks have been fork tender every time. We go at lunch to avoid the 2 credits. We were told by a server that the reason they were going to 2 credits was because so many people made reservations and then didn't show up. Don't know if there was any truth to that, but that was what she said. I agree that any place that takes 2 credits should be something special or out of the ordinary, which, even I will admit Le Cellier is not. However, OP, you will find parents who do not govern their children well at any restaurant, so that shouldn't count against Le Cellier.:flower3:

For those who didn't like the steak, have you been at dinner and since it became 2TS? We were several times before the switch and thought it was pretty good. WHile we didn't like the atmosphere, the steak really was amazing this time--coming from people who do really go to NY steak houses and not tourists! :) I had the bone in rib eye and think my husband had the NY strip? They did get it perfect, and we like more rare than most people--my issue is with it being 2TS I think the service and atmosphere should be better.

As far as the kids around us watching movies--that is an issue with Le Cellier particularly because, as has been noted, you are sitting almost on top of the table next to you. It was the one meal of the week where we could literally listen to Star Wars while eating because the table behind us had their kid watching it on an iPhone without ear buds! I just don't think the same is true of California Grill and it's the same price point!

Maybe that is true because the tables are a bit farther apart at the California Grill. But I don't think it has anything to do with CG being a better class of restaurant. You get rude and inconsiderate people all over the place at WDW.

I did have one wonderful meal at Le Ceiller where the little girl at the table next to us almost choked because she was shoving her food into her mouth so fast. I can't remember if that was before or after she was rolling around on the ground though.:sad2:

I had a great steak for lunch in Sept 2010. That being said the years before that the steak wasn't all that great and I never understood the hype. The breadsticks are just ok. I will still go for lunch if on the DDP because the food is decent.
