How are the pools a break?

I've already posted on this thread but I forgot to add that, since we get up sooo early in order to get to the parks at around opening time, we NEED a 'little' nap AFTER the pool!! ONLY THEN are we ready to head out again!!

I am an oddball here, but I agree with the OP. I actually am not a fan of swimming in the sun and heat of the day. Even in a pool, I feel like I am burning, and I just need to get out of the sun for awhile. On my mid afternoon breaks, I rather take a cool shower in my room than swim in a blazing hot sun! So when I am at WDW, I tend to only swim at night, usually after 9:00 pm. It's very common for me to swim at midnight, but of course, I travel solo and can do what I please! :teeth:

Here's how it goes in our family...
Kids: "We need a break...let's go back to the hotel to swim!"
Dad: "Good idea...I'm beat!"
Mom: "We can swim at home...don't you want to see more stuff at the parks?"
Kids & Dad: "NO!!!"

Dad proceeds to conk out on the bed, the kids make me take them to the pool (they are too young to go alone) and everyone gets refreshed EXCEPT ME!!!! I get more "worn out" herding everyone to the bus, back to the room, to the pool, BACK to the room, get re-dressed, back to the bus, back to the parks...whew!!! I would prefer a slower pace at the parks ALL DAY...a few shows, a shady bench, a nice lunch. Maybe if we went in June/July/Aug. it would be different. Early May was hot, but managable (under 90). Instead, I end up feeling like a crazed drill sergent! But, it's better than having sullen kids and a mopey spouse all afternoon!

It is a NECESSITY to schedule in your resort breaks!!! :sunny: Yes, the pools are in the sun but today in the middle of this 110 deg. heat wave as soon as I hit my pool I feel fantastic!!! Same goes for WDW but even MORE so!! That heat will suck the life out of you within about 3hrs!!! We ALWAYS plan our days like:

Theme Park (9am-12pm)
Resort break (1-4)
Early Dinner (5pm if possible)
Theme Park (6:30-?)

I know for a 'first timer' you may think that this is not going to be enough time to see and do everything you would like but you'd be surprised how much you CAN get done! :thumbsup2

Take it from those of us who know...we can't ALL be wrong :confused3
It's soooo easy to pick the groups/families who DO NOT heed this advice because you'll see them in a park around 7pm have TOTAL MELTDOWNS!! :furious:

Feel free to ask ANY questions on the DIS....nothing sounds 'silly'!!! :)

This is a great way to plan days--my couple of meltdowns on my recent trip were on days that I didn't get a nap during the afternoon.

When we go we always headed back to the hotel about 11am-1pm if we were doing a disney park. We'd have lunch and then have a rest in the room just chilling and having some time in the room while it was cooler in there. Then about 3.30pm we'd hit the pool. We found some shade at the baby pool at POR but the quiet pools were in the sun so we headed there when it got cooler. It just gave us the time to chill before hitting the parks at night

This year we woke up whenever we wanted, except for CRT breakfast day, went to the pool, went back to the room after hours of swimming and soaking up the sun, napped/watched TV, waited for the afternoon rain to end then hit the parks on their magic hour days. I think in our 8 days at Disney we hit the parks twice before 3:30 pm. We have found this to be the most relaxing because we're not baking in the afternoon sun, we get lots of pool time for the kids, we're not running around trying to hurry for busses, it was fabulous. Going to the pool after a park and then back to a park doesn't work for me because I have to shower and clean up after the pool. We had such an amazing time and the kids hailed the pool time.

Not sure this was said but Yes, being in the pool helps cool you down a lot. I have an above ground pool here in MA. We just came off of a heat wave with over 90 for quite a few days. You would feel hot as heck and sweaty, but if you swam for even a short time, you felt very much cooled off for a while after. It's funny because you'd think the heat would get right back at you but it doesn't bother you too much after a nice swim.

One thing to remember is to re-sunblock. Once you feel cool you tend to forget the sun is still very strong.

Should I be looking for breaks if I am going in October?

October average Hi temp is 85, average Low temp is 65 (weather.com). You should be alright without a break most of the time. But it can still get hot.

How are the pools a break?

The only way to really answer this is to try it yourself. Go to the parks in the morning until noon or so when you are sweating your butt off and feeling tired. Then back to the resort and jump in that pool!!! Best results are felt if you do a cannon ball!!

If you can tell me that you don't feel refreshed after that............

I am not sure if the pools will be refreshing if they are over 92 degrees as was just posted in another thread . . .

:sunny: So, just imagine how hot it will be NOT in the pool - humidity is sometimes unbearable!!

Anyways, pool or no pool, we just find it VERY important to head out of the parks for a few hours, chill out in the room, nap, change clothes, shoes, etc. After that we always say we feel like 'new people' again!!

The only time we don't follow the schedule I posted on page 1 is on the days (after late EMH's) that we 'sleep in' (!), hang around in the morning and not head out to wherever until noon or so. I also find these types of days really break things up for us also.

The key, IMHO, is that Disney is best enjoyed while savoured in mini-doses! I would hate to have a 'bad time' spoil ANY of our WDW fun!! Paid FAR too much $$$ to allow that to happen!! :rotfl:
