Anybody at the Fort can give a squito report? Be there next weekend.

I don't think it's mosquitoes but some sort of flying bug is doing a very good job in it's place. Bring bug spray.

We just got back yesterday and the skeeters attacked me and DD bad. I got a total of about 20 bites and we had bug spray!. DH did not get bit....go figure. We were in the 2800 loop and you could see that it had been really wet and boggy recently. Other than that we had a GREAT time!

Got back midweek there was some kind of Black and yellow bug that kick my but still have welts and itches there almost like horse flies

We just got back and the yellow biting flies were unGodly. We are all covered with itchy, red, welts. Deep Woods Off didn't even work :(

Having said that...I'd rather be at The Fort being snacked on by flies than at home and unbit!

Those would be deer flies and they hurt pretty bad. I got bit by one at the fort and had a welp for a couple days.

Florida's three main biting flies are the horse fly, deer fly, and yellow fly.

Sounds like yellow flies...the "fiercest" biter of them all. The problem with yellow flies is that they are so quiet, you don't know they're there until they've taken a chunk out of you.

I got bitten soo bad by them last weekend I am still itching bad. I must have 20 - 25 bites on me. I sprayed myself with off that had deet and that didn't do any good. They turn into blisters and the whole area around it is swollen and itches. It is a week later and they still itch. I have been bitten before by them (I thought they were horse flys, because of the horses around) but only one at a time and that was bad, I have scars from those bites, as I am sure I will have all over my feet and legs from these.

We camped early June one year. Never again. I do not want to camp there from Mid May to Mid June. I am in South Ga and we have the deer and yellow flies too, but a much shorter season. I got my first bite yesterday. It seems that the bites itch for weeks.

My legs look like I have chicken pocks. I have found the Benadryl cream or the bite sticks help with the itching.

Exactly. You don't even see them until it's too late and they really do take a chunk out of you- literally. One of our friends actually had a little chunk taken out of his leg. He didn't realize it until he felt the bite then saw the blood run down his leg. They are evil.

We tried Citronella candles, coils, and Deep Woods Off. Nothing worked

ouch..I picked up a couple of those thermacells, havn't tried them before. Hope they help. My middle boy welts up bad with biters.

This may sound crazy, but when we originally arrived Friday I thought these little suckers were sweat bees. I looked up how to control and a dishsoap/water mixture was mentioned. Since we have insect repellent and citronella and they don't work I figured I'd try it out. I rubbed it on my legs and arms last night and I did not notice any landing on me or biting. I don't know if it is coincidence or not, but the damage had already been done as I have bites everywhere from Fri/Sat and am swollen. My ankles have disappeared :(.

Any idea of how long these creatures will be staying? We are coming July 30-August 4. This is our first trip to FW. We are staying in a cabin.

We went to WDW in June of 2008 and stayed at All Star Sports. If there is a mosquito within a hundred feet, it finds my son. None of us got a single bite and we didn't use repellent.

Oh, how that picture brings back memories! The YELLOW FLY's bite is worse than it's buzz! Last week at Disney was my first ever experience with those things! Mosquitos were non-existent....maybe the yellow flies killed them? :confused3

We've been home for 4 days and I think the itching is actually worse now than it was then! :confused3

I've read that their season is pretty short, I hope so since we're going back in a couple months.

I would MUCH rather have mosquitoes, these things are AWFUL! :headache:
