They are fine! We were at Clearwater beach last Wednesday, and the kids swam. The only oil as far as I know was in Alabama and possibly the very northwest part of the panhandle.
The second week in November we stayed at the Hilton on Long Boat Key. Beautiful! No issues what so ever. That is just north of Sarasota, and we were in that area eating good Amish food.
And funny -- I use to be a Hoosier living in Husker land until we moved here.
Deep cleaning of some beaches does still continue. The surface oil has all been removed, but machinery has been developed to dig deep into the sand to get it ALL.
Please visit, from what I understand the Gulf is hurting. I have friends in the Panhandle and a lot of the businesses where they are just couldn't survive. I know this isn't where you are going, but spread the word, we are good.
Just returned yesterday from the Fort Myers area. The beaches were great there! About the only problem might be the weather. It's turned somewhat chilly. Hopfully the cool spell will not last to long.
And the Hoosierland area I am from is where many Mennonites retire (Sarasota). Miss the Das Essenhaus... sigh...
Good places in Sarasota. But none we ate in quite beat Essenhaus. Although Troyer's did have the Sweet and Sour salad dressing like Essenhaus. I did not see any caramel puffs in Sarasota either.
