How are the beds at Paradise Pier, Tropicana, or BW Park Place Inn? Need to book soon

I think I've narrowed down the choices to the Paradise Pier, Tropicana, or BW Park Place Inn. We need to decide and book our hotel soon so I'm hoping you guys can help me. Dh and I have bad luck when it comes to hotel beds. We usually get one that's too hard and sinks in the middle and end up tossing and turning all night, with sore backs in the morning. If you've stayed in any of these hotels did you have any complaints about the bed? Also, is the Tropicana next door to the BW Park Place Inn? We're liking the fact that the Park Place Inn is the closest hotel since we will most likely be heading back for naps in the afternoon each day with our 2.5, 5, & 7 yr olds. But we will walk further for a better bed! The Paradise Pier looks nice, but I'm not sure if it's that much nicer to warrant paying more with a farther walk and no cont. breakfast. Although I do like the bigger pool with the waterslide! Will the weather be warm enough in early Dec. to use it? Is the Paradise Pier that much nicer than the other choices that it's worth it to pay more & walk more? Help! LOL

We stayed at the PP last fall. The bed were nice. They were a bit firm, but not hard. I really like the beds at the Candy Cane. They are new (delivery truck was in the parking lot in March). They are nice pillow tops- super comfy!

Possibly. Yes it is Los Angeles CA but it's still winter. I guess if they crank up the pool heater then yes. It can get pretty cold there.

During my two stays at PP, I found the beds to be very comfortable, firm but not too firm. We had two great stays at this hotel and love being onsite.


Stayed at the Tropicana this past February and found the beds to be comfy. They were very firm, felt like new, but I like that so it was fine. Be aware, the Tropicana encases their mattresses in plastic covers. These did not bother my family, in fact we liked the fact that this probably made the mattresses/bedding more sanitary. They will remove them for you gladly if you ask and they are also easy enough to remove yourself. They are a bit noisy as you get in and out of bed, as the cloth mattress pad does not reach all the way to the edge of the mattress so they make a sort of squeaky noise. Again, not a problem for us, if they had been I would have taken them off or asked them too. Yes, the Tropicana is next door to the Park Place Inn, its very convenient! And the continental breakfast is bare bones but was fine for us, got us going and was free. We really liked the Tropicana and will stay there again in the future when we don't want to pay the $$ for onsite.

Only you can answer if paying more to stay onsite is "worth" it. Many people don't think it is, I usually do. Although sometimes (like last Feb. when we stayed at the Tropicana) we plan last minute, budget trips and then staying offsite is our only option. If you can afford to stay onsite without cutting back on duration of visit, nice meals you might want to do, souveneirs you might want to buy etc., then go for it. If however, that extra money you spend for lodging makes the rest of your trip budget whimper and stressful, stay offsite and be happy with that! You can have a great trip either way. I happen to think the walk up Downtown Disney to the onsite hotels is fun and just an extension of the magic so that doesn't ever sway my decision. The Tropicana and the Best Western Park Place are so super convenient however that only the Grand Californian can be considered closer. Good luck with your decision. Another thing to consider is that you will receive Early Entry each day it is offered by staying onsite. This is a great perk, crowds are much higher all year long these days and having an extra hour each day they open early is so nice. If you stay offsite, your park hopper ticket will give you one EE day only. I hope this helps you a bit, I know its a tough decision!

How much are you looking to pay? I would suggest trying priceline, as you will likely get a much nicer room at a much lower price. PM if you need any help using priceline. If you're looking for reviews at a specific hotel, try tripadvisor. It's a fantastic website for checking reviews by users. Just to let you know:

Best Western Park Place Inn is given 4 of 5 stars, with 135 reviews.
Paradise Pier is given 4 of 5 stars, with 109 reviews you can read.
Tropicana Inn is given 3.5 of 5 stars by users, with 69 reviews you can read.

Keep in mind that "bed hardness" is subjective. I rarely have been dissapointed with a bed in a 'true' 3 star hotel, as most of them have contracted out to very nice bedding companies. Also, most hotels, even if they're just a few blocks away, will have some sort of free shuttle.

PP was very nice and reasonable when we stayed there last June .
