How are QS meals at the AKL?

Hi everyone,
Going to Disney in Sept on the free dining plan. We are staying in AKL with our almost 3 year old twins. I'm thinking of going to the parks after lunch and then staying at them until night. Anyway, most likely we'll be at the pool during the day. How is the counter service meals at AKL? Do you think it would be worth leaving at lunchtime and going elsewhere? Mara is okay as far as food courts go. I actually think the food courts at the moderates and value resorts have a little better selection. Maybe it's because more moderates/values guests eat at the food courts? I find the room a little dreary, especially if you compare it with the high ceilings in the value and moderates. I even noticed it at the food court at the Contempary last Sept. Just seems a little, I don't know, smaller ?

Anyway, the food is fine, I think the quality is the same as the other Disney Resorts.

I think you might consider, at least for a few days, going to the parks before lunch and eating there. I think the CS selections at the parks far exceeds the selection at the food courts (esp. Mara). It's what I would do.

MK Cosmic Rays in TL is great and so is Peco's Bills..
AK Tusker House, Flametree, Pizzafair, and of course McD's.(Restaurantosaurus)
MGM Pizza Planet -be warned-there are games upstairs!)
Epcot-Electric Umbrella, Sunshine Season (The Land), Cantina de San Angel (Mex.) and Yakitori House (Jap.)

Also, unless your twins are big eaters, what I would do is order them one regular meal (either kid or adult) and share it. Otherwise you're going to waste alot of food and this would give you a few more CS credits to use for your stay.

You could also pick up sandwiches to go at Mara and take them in the park if you wanted ( I think they have sandwiches, I know the moderates do)
