Been reading about the david’s rental issues I am probably going to become a victim in the summer but how are the others handling this? Are the renters losing out all across the board?

I am curious if other rental brokers have a "Force Majeure" clause in their contracts. If there is one, then it would determine how's the cancellation is handled. If not, it would be interesting to see how it's being handled.

Mostly because it's not allowed, I suspect. If you even speak of a non-sponsored site here in reference to rentals, it is immediately shut down and sometimes with a reprimand. Might as well call it for what it is. There is no such thing as open dialog and discussion with regards to rental services on the Dis boards. It's the same with the resale market. I'm not complaining, but the reality needs to be out there so people know that answers to questions like this simply can't be answered here, so that they can find somewhere else to get their answers.

This is absolutely NOT true. We do not shut any discussion down unless the business is in the boards filter. If it is there is a reason and it doesn’t have to do with not being a board sponsor,

Please read this and you will see there are several companies which can be discussed,

Absolutely NOT true. Only the websites/businesses in the DISboards filter are not allowed to be discussed here. There are several businesses that are not sponsors that may be discussed here. (BTW, there are good reasons for the filter. If you have a problem with the policy, feel free to send your comments to admin@wdwinfo.com))

Curious as we have an Aug 1st rental at Boardwalk through the DVC store and am wondering what would happen if the part and resort is still closed.

i just booked a few days ago through DVC store and my 1st question was what will happen if the resorts are closed due to the virus. they told me that i would be able to rebook at a later date with 0 consequences due to it being closed my disney. i live 45mins away so i never asked about a refund as we would just move to a different date. the deposit also wasn't due for 2 week. i am very happy with my experience and will use them again as long as this booking remains smooth sailing.

My understanding is that none of the brokers are handling this in a way that would be defined as "yay" by anyone involved. Different brokers pay a different amount up front, and have mostly been offering vouchers or reschedules. Which means they're all gambling with their cash flow, since getting the up-front payments to owners is dicey, and a lot of people are filing chargebacks with credit cards rather than accept vouchers. A lot of owners who rented and got the up-front money aren't going to come back and offer the same points again without payment.

So a lot of people are mad now, and the vouchers create many future messes because to fulfill the brokers will have to pay new owners going rates. And availability of prime bookings may be an issue for the renter, as well as just there likely being more vouchers than owners with points in the broker systems willing to play.

Has anyone heard or know of a situation where the broker has allowed the owner & renter to communicate and negotiate a reschedule or point transfer (assuming renter is a DVC owner themselves)?

No they are not allowing this as the contracts preclude this. There is no contractual arrangement between owner and renter.

Thanks for the responses. I would be fine with the broker being in the middle of it...I'm just not exactly thrilled about a potential reservation in the 1st weeks of any re-opening and would like to move it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. So, does that mean your reservation was rented using banked points? What happens next if Aulani is closed? Will you be offered another booking? or will you be up the creek without a paddle?

I am not sure if they were banked points, but I assume they were December use year points because I had to rebook a reservation before the end of November - I am still learning DVC terminology :) I have no idea what will happen if Aulani is still closed, but we still have the point protection plan so we'd be able to get at least a bit of cash back. Maybe they will offer the voucher for a full credit like they are doing now, but who knows.

What I have read elsewhere, is that www.dvcstore.com is paying owners their full amount at original check in and then offering them additional money...$100 maybe...to book a new reservation while Issuing vouchers to renters,

Not sure how accurate, but it sounds like they made good choices to keep owners happy.

I am new to the boards and still learning (sorry!), so I wanted to respond without breaking any rules! I had a rental reservation in April that I got switched to November. The company that I rented from facilitated this - I was not allowed to speak to the owner - but the owner was willing to rebook my reservation. I do not think this is happening for all cases.

I have a reservation to Aulani that I was trying to get the DVC Store to see if the owner would move and they have absolutely refused to even ask which I think is ridiculous.
