How are crowds at US/IOA in May compared to DW?

Okay, I will just go ahead and put it out there. We are complete Disneyworld freaks. However, we are looking for something a little different this year and are contemplating Universal and Islands of Adventure maybe sometime this May.

For those of you who have been in May, what are the crowds like? The kids get out of school close to the end of the month, so it would be the third week of May probably. DH swears he will NEVER go back to DW in the summertime as crowds are just way too insane. Is Universal the same? Thanks for any input. :sunny:

Its going to be crowded. What do you think? It will probably rain, it is florida. Will they be as busy as wdw? No, not by a long shot. You wont have to wait 3 hours to go on a ride...maybe 1, but not 3...and why you disney people do that is beyond me. Advice...read the rest of the boards. Stay on site. Cut the cord, leave mickey alone, he's taken your money for way too long.

and get to the entrance line by 8:20 in the morning.
you start early before the crowds do.

once it hits 11, it does get crowded.

and i always stay on site and don't have to worry about the lines.
i use the fotl but still get there before the park opens.

unlike disney, uo/ioa does open early on occassions when the lines are long at the entrance.
it has happened when i have been there

LOL Very cute. :sunny:

I think DH would tend to agree with you on the Mickey and the money part.

To be honest, I wouldn't wait 3 hours for anything. Between fastpasses and picking the right (less crowded) time of the year to go, if I cannot get on a ride within 40 minutes, I will not go on it.

I was actually thinking of booking onsite just because of the FOTL priviledges. How long do you normally have to wait in line with FOTL? I assume it all depends on crowd size?

i have stayed on site for quite a few years now.
the longest time i ever had with the fotl was 10 minutes.

and that was on a packed saturday in mid june.

my usual wait time has been 5 minutes or less.
even if you do the shows such as beetlejuice, you don't have a long wait.
you have a separate entrance for that. only have to be sure you are there near the designated show times.

horror make up show: all are in the same building waiting for the show to open up. the fotl and epp guests go to a roped off area, someone there will show you. there are signs everywhere to direct you.

the employee will allow those individuals to enter the theater first.
once they are seated, it is opened up to all other guests to enter and find a seat.

i do disney portion of my trip first, i save the best for last, universal.

they spoil me too much.
the perks are worth it.

forgot to add, you can always do the single line riders.
when i go solo and have the fotl, i still use the single line entry.

Now that sounds good.

the first 2 weeks of May during the week are great. weekends are always busy throughout the year. our longest wait in the express pass line has always been under 15 minutes. staying in a resort will spoil you forever. if you don't stay onsite, express pass plus is another option.

Express plus is an option that will cost you extra, but you go to disney alot, so you're used to spending extra (Had to get that one in!) The longest time we've waited was 25 mins. for ROTM during MG. Wow, that was a nightmare. But early is the key, especially now......everyone will be rushing to the parks because of the KIDS FOR FREE deals they got going.....on second thought....go to the parks later, theres always a big rush in the mornings......there, now no one will know the secrets!

Don't be hatin' on the mouse! :rotfl:

We've been to Universal twice in early May and it is simply wonderful!!! The weather is beautiful so you can really enjoy the water rides and the wonderful convenience of walking to the parks.
