How are credits allocated?

I've done the dining plan about 5 times now, but I've never really thought about how the credits are allocated. This year we may have some strangeness in our plans, so I am curious.

We are me, my husband, our daughter (who will be nine when we go) and our two year old son who won't be on the plan obviously. We are staying at WL for eight nights, so me, my husband and daughter will have eight table credits each. My question is, are the eight credits assigned to each of us separately, or are they pooled together, giving us 24 table credits total?

The reason I am asking is because my daughter (who doesn't know that we are going on this trip yet) always talks about how much she LOVED Artist Point when we went there a few years ago. Since we are staying at WL, we want to make sure to take her there. Because of our schedule, we might have to make a late reservation to fit it in. Since my son is two, he likely won't make it through a late reservation without a meltdown, so we are considering having one of us take our daughter to the restaurant, while the other takes our son to the room to put him to bed. What happens to the two credits that won't get used by one of us that night, if we do it. Can they be split between two people for a one service meal later, or do they have to be used by the same person?

Also, having never stayed in a deluxe hotel on the dining plan, can credits be used for roomservice? That might be a good way to spend one of those credits for the person who stays behind!

They are divided between adult and children TS credits, but not allocated per person. So if you took your DD to Artist Point, then yes the other 2 credits could be used by you and DH at another 1TS meal. Your DD would be short credits for that meal and you'd have to pay OOP for her.

Credits can be used for room service for a price of 2TS credits, but tax AND gratuity are included for room service.

The credits are pooled for all adults in the room (and all kids in the room, but you only have one kid on the plan). So you will have a total of 16 adult TS credits and 8 child TS credits. You could use 2 credits for the AP dinner, then the other 2 credits could be split between you and your DH for another meal.

Credits can be used for room service, but it does require 2 TS credits. Your DH could use 2 credits for room service that night when he stays in with your DS.

Or you could hire an in-room sitter from Kids' Night Out or Fairy Godmothers to watch your DS while you, your DH, and DD go to AP for a late dinner.

All your credits (24) will be pooled together giving you maximum flexibility, meal entitlements can be used whenever you like during your stay.

At Wilderness Lodge they do offer Private In-room Dining/Pizza Delivery, so one of you can use those 2-credits for in room dining and if not use them for two one-table service meals.

As the PPs have said, the Adult credits will be pooled (16 credits), but the child credits (8) will be separate.

Keep in mind that if your daughter is on the child's dining plan she will need to order of the child's menu if you intend to use one of her credits. Children and Adult credits are kept track of sperately, you cannot just use an adult credit for her.

You don't have to use the credits each day. You have a total of 18 adult credits for your trip. You can use zero on one day and 4 on another if you like. However and adult has to use the adult credits and a child the child credits.

You can however upgrade her to the adult dining plan if you like. You would have to upgrade her park pass too, but if you have a child who will become bored with the children's menus, you may want to look into it.

From the information in the Deluxe Dining plan brochure, credits are seperated for adults and children. See page 2 of the brochure:

"Present your Key to the World card to the server or cashier at the
time a meal or snack is purchased and specify the number of
meals or snacks being redeemed for Guests ages 10+ on your
Disney Deluxe Dining Plan and the number of meals or snacks
being redeemed for Guests ages 3-9 on your Disney Deluxe Dining
Plan."

Not true! We have used the DxDDP many times. The room key will say DxDDP 2A 1C or DxDDP 1A 1C, etc. They are definitely seperated.

Below describes the DxDDP (I did bold the comment in the third paragraph, but it was bolded word for word as it was printed):

The Deluxe Disney Dining Plan (DXDP) entitles each guest to receive 3 meal credits and 2 snack credits per night’s stay. Deluxe meal credits can be used for either table service or counter service.

EXAMPLE: Sunday to Saturday stay (6 nights) allots 18 meal credits and 12 snack credits per guest age 3 and over. This plan also includes one Resort Refillable Mug per person good for unlimited refills of beverages at resorts only for the length of stay. Beverages usually include soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

Adult credits are assigned to guests age 10 and older. Child credits are for guests age 3-9. Children age 2 and under do not receive dining credits. Adult and child credits are not interchangeable. Children must order from a child’s menu at restaurants where one is available. However, generally speaking an adult is allowed to use an adult entitlement to order a children's meal from the child's menu.

One nice feature about the dining plans is how the credits can be used. Credits are not limited to your daily allotment, and you may use multiple credits per day. (As long as there are enough remaining credits of course) Those on the Regular Dining Plan or Deluxe Dining Plan can even choose to exchange two table service credits for a show or signature dining experience if they desire.
