How and When to Make Room Requests? Plus any recs for POR?

We are coming up on our trip, and have a slightly complicated itinerary (I mean, not terribly complicated from what I've seen here, but more than just "we'd like a room in this area...).

Our party - two families - 1: 2 adults, 3 children 2: 2 adults Everything is under my "my disney" account, 2nd reservation is under my father's name.

Our stay - split stay (POR for all of these):
First stay - room only - 1/20-1/22 - River view for 5, and King Bed for 2
Second Stay - Package - 1/22-1/28 - Garden view for 5, garden view for 2

Our biggest priority is connecting rooms - while it would be great to have that for both stays, I would highly highly prioritize getting it for the longer 2nd stay.

For POR, besides making that request, are there any specific rooms/buildings that I might want to request?

When and how do you actually make these requests?

You'll want to call. It's way too complicated to do any other way. Call as soon as you book. They can take full notes online so just do it all there.
You'll want to have them note that the 2 reservations are connecting/affiliated reservations so they'll know you have a party you are traveling with. I also noticed when I booked that you can include this at the time info at the time you book a reservation, you have to check a box and it open a 2nd layer menu where you can check connecting doors and enter the 2nd reservation number. But if you've already booked then it's too late to do that. Still not too late to call
Then you'll also want to note that you want connecting rooms as your highest priority. And then tell them if they can't meet that, adjoining as your 2nd choice.
I'm not sure I'd even bother with any other requests if I were you. I'd go with a room anywhere, as long as it was connecting. We've had rooms in all various areas of the resort and liked them all. None I wouldn't return to

Similar type of question, my family has a trip coming up 1/9/18, 2 rooms at POP Century. I (along with everyone else, lol) would like to request refurbished rooms, same building, but the rooms do not need to connect or even be right near each other. Any suggestions on which building is the best to request & how to go about making this request since you can't call the hotel directly? Also, when to send the request-I want to avoid sending it too soon or too late.

You can't send it too early. Less than 5 days out is too late. You don't need to worry about calling the hotel, just call Reservations, they'll make the necessary notes
In your case, I'd still call so they can connect the reservations together since the only way to do that online is when you book.

Thank you, will do!
