How an AP/SP is advertised

Here is a copy & paste from a link that Disney has just sent me. I am not sure why they aren't connecting that I am already a passholder. Anyway..when we are all talking about discounts & why some of us are upset, this is a current advertisement ...please read it carefully, it talks about the extra discounts that come with it... no this post isn't to start an argument, but to end one.... so others can see why some of us feel the way we do.

the last paragraph is the one that I am refering to... it states "periodic Walt Disney World® Resort room discounts".
It isn't until after you purchase the pass do you get the sleeve where it says can discontinue at anytime. I went into it as if I was going to purchase & couldn't find it anywhere. So therefore when people are saying that they are entitled to it..it sounds like they are.. I am not saying that they are, but if you read the advertisement, you wouldn't know that they can cancel the discounts... please read.

I do not usually like to get caught up in this stuff, but if you go to the Disney website, and click on the passholder tab, and then click on "Learn about Passes" (This can all be done without a current AP) here is the info that is listed there for pass benefits.

So if you buy your AP on line you are made aware of the Periodic room discounts. Periodic means recurring or reappearing from time to time. This does not infer that discounts are always or will always be available,

But, Disney has not canceled room discounts for Annual Passholders. They have just changed the way in which they offer the "periodic Walt Disney World® Resort room discounts". As long as they over a room discount for Annual Passholders at some point during a calendar they have offered their "periodic" discount and therefore are covered.

My husband and I are long time AP holders and the room discount is just an added bonus. The real savings in on park admission and now the DDE is a great plus.

I think you both misunderstood my post. I am not saying that Disney has canceled the discounts, nor am I saying that they have to be available year round...this post is meant to show where some people were stating what makes an AP holder feel they are entitled to an AP rate... if you purchase something that states disounts are there then that is the impression you will get... that was all it was meant for. I know they are still there, just not the way we all were use to them & they never were up for grabs 365 days a year. However, there never was that "black hole" in October that was created when Disney switched form the old fashion call in to the online BRP. Which also brings me to the question, what would someone do it they didn't have access to the net to book? When you purchase the pass, it isn't stated to get the discounts, you need a computer with the internet? Do you see what I am saying.. I am just pointing out some valid points that may or maynot have been over looked... that is all
I am not one that bought my pass for the discounts, I did buy it for the parks. I admit, I am very very spoiled by them, but I know there are times that I cannot get them. When I cannot, or if I feel that the discount isn't steep enough (cannot afford at that time) then I just stay offsite, no biggie... but I still go to the parks & as I said days ago, I will still eat at the resorts with my Disney Dining & Entertainment Card. It works out cheaper to eat at one of the Value resort food courts with that card than it does going to McD's or BK I have had that card since 2000.

I understood your post. I just do not see how the information would support anyone's feeling of entitlement. If anything the informaiton you posted supports the position that a person is not entitled to a room discount just because they happen to be an Annual Passholder.

The way I read the ad, it states that there are "periodic Walt Disney World® Resort room discounts" that comes along with purchasing the AP, not because they happen to be an AP holder. They didn't happen to be an AP holder and then find out about the discounts, they purchased it knowing it came with etc.... Where are you getting that they are not entitled? Just curious If you buy something & it says you get something with it, aren't you going to look for that other thing? Example: The DDE card states that you get the discount for up to a party of 10. If using that card with a party of 10 aren't you going to think you are entitled to the discount? Then you find out that they changed the maximun party size? It said 10 when you purchased your DDE? (by the way... Disney has done that too. It use to be good for a party of 8 then they changed it to a party of 6 & they didn't care that when you purchased it they told you 8. Now it is 10 since they have opened it up to anyone with an AP). That is another example, when you purchased your DDE, they charged you $50 right? That is a perk that's mentioned when advertising for it. The AP ad also states that the guest will get the Mickey Monitor, do you look for that? I really am confused on how you can say that it supports the position that a person is not entitled to a room discount. ... I don't know, maybe it is the way I read things.. I am not being nasty, but can you please show how you get not entitled to it????? As I said, I didn't purchase it for that...shoot I am a FL resident & I can get that discount on the room even if I am not a passholder..... all I was doing was a copy & paste of Disney's own wording... that is all

To me, the word periodic, means that discounts can happen, but don't expect them. Too many out there expect them and that is where the entitlement comes from. They are giving them just about for every month and day. Just because a couple of weeks are left out mean nothing. They are still doing better then periodically giving room discounts. Anyone that buys that pass for anything BUT the great price for getting into the parks as much as they want is buying it for the wrong reason.

I see the entitlement issue less about the fact that Disney has stated they will offer periodic discounts and more about the fact that many seem to think Disney owes them Discounts every month, with few if any restrictions.

Disney has given great discounts to AP holders for the past few years. After 9/11 attendance really dropped and they encouraged Fl. residents and AP holders to come more often even for shorter stays and with some deep discounts.
I never even knew about the discounted rates for AP holders until I started reading these boards while planning my upcoming trip this year. I did know about annual passes but since I do not go to Disney more than once a year I never even considered buying one. Disney sells an AP as a one year pass so you can visit the parks as often as you want. Room discounts were never guaranteed.
Watch for their off season specials. 7 nights for the price of 4. 7 nights for the price of 5 or free dining if you do not like the BR plan with the non refundable deposit. Welcome to my world.
