How About Some Old School

One of my geeky habits is to collect travel brochures from anywhere & everywhere we visit. I have a box full and like to go through them from time to time.
I came across an old USF brochure from 1993. Does anybody else remember Dynamite Nights Stuntshow Spectacular? There was a whole page on it, and it looked to be a nighttime show on the lagoon where Universal 360 is now. It looked from the picture like a lot of boat chases, explosion effects, etc. We never got to see this, probably due to visiting during off seasons. Just wondering if anyone has any memory of this show.

I wish I kept all those brochures.From Sw,Bg,DW-all parks,Cypress Gardens,Silver Springs(these I should of realy kept I was there 30yrs ago)and of coarse Universal since 92'..

Anyway I remember that show in the lagoon.It started at night with a bunch of pyro,speed boats and jet ski's jumping.It was a great show I wish they would bring back!!

You say you have a box full of old brochures,let me put it this way,I have half a room full of brochures from theme parks,attractions and state travel guides that I've been collecting for at least 15-20 years.When people I know go on vacations I tell them not to bring me any souvenirs and just go to the hotel and grab me a stack of good brochures and I'm more than happy.As far as the old stunt show in the USF lagoon,I thought it was great and it's surprising they haven't had some sort of reincarnation of this show.I know over in IOA they had a ski show for a short run and an episode of Fear Factor taped in their lagoon,but since I'm not a huge fan of the 360 show it would be cool to bring something like it back to USF.

An entire room. My humble collection has now been put to shame. Very impressive. But glad to know I'm not the only one who obsesses with picking those up on trips. I just hope the internet doesn't replace the brochure biz since many people can now get the same info online. We always make habit of stopping at the Fla welcome center on I-75 on the way down to Orlando. I usually fill up an entire Wal-Mart size bag with brochures, mostly theme-park related.

I do wish USF would add some sort of water stunt show back to the lagoon. Maybe something like Waterworld at USH

When we went for our first time in the spring of 1999, there was a boat stunt show on the lagoon. It was very well done and we really enjoyed it.

I used to love the Ghostbusters Spooktacular.

I just got Ghostbusters on Blu-ray and the new game for PS3 so I'm all about the Ghostbusters again.

I recall that stunt show on the lagoon. It was done both during the day and at night if I remember correctly...

Any way you could scan and post these old park maps/ brochures? I wish I had mine still from my first visits around this time, but I don't so I would love to have a picture of them at least!

Yeah I'll try to scan some in the next week or so. (I don't have a scanner myself, but will have access to one soon enough).
I surfed YouTube and found a nice video of the Dynamite Nights stunt show. This video first starts off with a few seconds of Nickelodeon Studios, but then goes right into DN.

There was a daytime and nighttime stunt show on the lagoon, correct. The original name for it was the Miami Vice _something_ stunt show.

There were some really cool things that happened, one boat would go into a boat-shed type of place and fly out around the corner, and there was an old fashioned boat in the middle that would blow apart in the finale.

IMO much more exciting than Universal 360 is now, sadly

There was a lot of machine gun fire, explosions and boats leaping through the air. It was a great show, far better than the boring things they've done in the lagoon since it ended. Ghostbusters was also cool but I could see how they would want to update it after a few years. It's really time to update Twister also.

King Kong the ride was kind of corny. The best thing about King Kong was during Halloween Horror Nights when they used the streets of the set for one of their haunted houses.

I've got mixed feelings over the park closing Kong. While it wasn't Universal's most high-tech thrill ride, we still ranked it as a classic like E.T. & BTTF. It's like if Disney were to remove one of their classics such as Pirates or Haunted Mansion for an indoor roller coaster. Why?
Don't get me wrong. Mummy is INCREDIBLE. One of my fav dark rides period. I wish it could have come at the expese of a different attraction than Kong. But then you'd have fans of that ride complaining like I am now, so....
