How about GF vs WL?

I have enjoyed the AKL/GF thread, but my question has to do with the WL or GF. From my first visit to WDW back in 1988(?) I have dreamed of a stay at GF. In fact we were supposed to stay there for our honeymoon but a little something called Hurricane Andrew threw a monkey wrench in our travel plans to Florida (all the flights were cancelled). Soo, three kids later, we still have not made it to the GF!

So we have also visited the WL and WOW is all I can say. We were so impressed (especially DH, this is really his scene!). So that is the other resort I have on my agenda.

Money IS an issue here. To me even $290s with an AP discount at the GF is a bit steep, when I was quoted WL for $184 woods view WITH tax (AP), with the possibility of rates like $139 at WL to be had.

So, for those who have stayed at both, what do you think. Is GF worth the extra $$$?

Well, this is a tough one, but I'll give you my two cents.

We love WL. Its where we were married, so it holds a special place. That being said, we Honeymooned at GF, so its special too. If we had to choose which we enjoyed more, it would be WL. This is because we love the themeing. We are National Park buffs and enjoy the rustic feel. We also enjoy the lobby. To us its relaxing and a great place to people watch.

GF is beautiful and elegant. We stayed Concierge in the main building, so we were pampered endlessly (which is what a honeymoon is all about  ). Having the monorail was great. It did make it very convenient to get to MK and Epcot. We also used the boat to MK (WL has one also). We also enjoyed the character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare.

So they are both great. We felt more comfortable at WL. Its hard to compare the rooms becuse we stayed in different levels. Woods view at WL...a little small, but ours was very quiet. GF was deluxe room with a great view of Cinderella Castle.

If money is the deciding factor, go WL. However if GF has been a dream for awhile, its well worth the stay, at least once! Of course, you may fall in love and never be able to go anywhere else.

You are probably better off staying at the WL.

And I'm speaking as someone whose first love, Disney-wise, is the GF

But the last thing you want to be worrying about on a Disney vacation is money (ha!) and you might do well to save the GF for a special occasion -- an anniversary, a weekend getaway, something like that. (We stayed there for our 10th anniversary, and were gaga over the place -- but then we could afford to splurge.)

Is it worth the extra money? Oh yeah, I think so. Being so close to MK is not to be believed. If you wanted to, you could roll out of bed and be walking down Main Street 10 minutes later :goodvibes And the place radiates class. It's definitely someplace special.

But the WL isn't THAT much further away, and it's a gorgeous resort in its own right. Plus, with discounts that steep -- almost at the same rate as a moderate! -- it's hard to resist.
