oh, yeah, there's NO way Ann is the bad person your someone is referring to!! A bad person could never come up with this idea... Count me in for the DD idea, I can't believe how simple that would be.

I'm sure DCL would be able to set up some sort of DD account for just this purpose, and we can all send what we can. DAID are you listening?? :listen:

OK, What is DAID girls and boys? Dont forget I am new to this forum... Ya lost me on that one...
Thanks for all the input everyone, youns are just great, I can't beleive the feedback on DIS :grouphug: and to think that everyone are mere strangers.
Ann has truly been an angel so far,
Here is my home email address in case anyone wants to email me there, It is okay. Chatty@stargate.net

Ciao,

would be PERFECT! If anyone in management is listening how about it? Or if you would wave the onboard credit minimum amount for the case of ill children. That way if we were aware of a sick child we could just call the 800 number and buy an onboard credit for them. Most people could afford ten dollars here and there but just think about it...If we had a thread with the sail dates and names of ill children people could call in say a minimum of five dollars... well if 20 people did that then that child would be surprised with ONE HUNDRED dollars to spend on the ship! You would not have to buy disney dollars since the shipboard credit could be charged right to your credit card. I had thought of this before but the minimum is what stood in the way so I just mailed my own disney dollars. Now please note I am only suggesting this for truely ill children, it is not meant to be "pixie dust" or a little surprise for healthy kids, they have their entire life to have special surprises happen. (sorry Mike -just in case my own DS gets any ideas:p )

Kathy the D.A.I.D is short for disney angel in disguise... a wonderful soul (Mr. Oimett I presume) who has helped many ill children with his generousity.

It is a lovely idea to help children. However, it seems the most safe to donate money to established charities if you don't know someone personally. Some people on the board I do feel as though I know personally because of a long-time relationship on the board by the way, even though we may not have met personally.

ChattyKathy, you will have a great time on the 4 night/5 day cruise. Just enjoy and don't spend another minute wishing you had more days. Just think that it is a perfect time to sit back, relax, and have fun with your whole family. Really you will have a wonderful time. My friend just got back from a 3 night and she said it was great. Be happy with what you received.

Let me know what you need. Also if there are any kids or their siblings interested in pin trading on the ship.

I have way too many pins and they need to be sent out into the world to do good things for others.

Oh, I am VERY happy with what Alyssa is going to receive! :D

My thing is that I was misled by MAW and fed that into my daughter. I allowed and helped her to make an intinerary for 7 days, and I just felt horrible about doing that to her. When your child is ill and on a high; you hate to knock that out of them. The smiles and giggles are remarkable, as you must know. We spent all of last week in Childrens Hosp, and that is how I kept Alyssa's little hands and mind busy! :sunny:
We will go and we will have a wonderful time, and I will deal with her in my own way IF a miracle doesnt happen meanwhile, I am hoping to hit the lottery, and then I'll pay for ALL of us to go! :p

Thanks for the advice and comments! Have a good day!:wave2:

There is nothing worse than seeing children sick. I thank god every day for the healthy children I have and the ability to do what I can to help those who are not as fortunate as us. Please let me know what I can do.

Take care ChattyKathy and give Alyssa and your other children a big hug from us. :grouphug:

And I just can not seem to come up with a safe, easy, logical way to do this. I certainly do not want to handle any money nor would I feel comfortable sending money to a non -organization.
The only things I can come up with are either somehow getting DCL to waive the minimum amount for onboard credit purchases than anyone could purchase credit for a child's account or having a list posted like the cruise list at the top stating the name, cruise date, illness of a child and a contact address. Then people could send Disney dollars directly to the family. The only problem with that approach as DH pointed out there could be some not so ethical people who might post a fake illness soley to become a recipient. It is hard to imagine someone doing that but there are some people that are scammers out there. I really would like to make this work somehow but just am not sure of how.

Boy...if anybody can figure out a way to work this out..COUNT ME IN!! It's a wonderful idea!

And, I hate to post this because Alyssa is my daughter.... BUT, here goes...

Why cant it be arranged that an account be made at DCL, or whereever it is that MAW or any other organization would contact for a wish arrangement like this...( to be assured that this is a for real thing and NOT a scam/lie);
When the WISH is being arranged or booked or whatever it is they do thru DCL, that IS the verification of the ill child... Did that make sense?
The only way this 'DIS-giving acct for ill children' could be used is IF the child is brought in thru MAW or any other organization...

That way it will be basically in DCL's hands and maybe can be coordinated with someone/two from DIS also... so youns can work hand in hand with it. Then decisions can be made by both parties, DCL can be the acct holder , while the DIS reps can be the deciders.

I.E.: Say for instance with my story... MAW is obviously covering air, car rental/transportation, a 4 day cruise, and whatever else we would need to do this cruise at this point. (From what I understand)...
Alyssa wishes an additional 3 days on the ship ( and this is because of the misleading we had with MAW; Mind you~she picked a TV for her second wish)...
I am sure MAW would be willing to adjust the day/time for departure back home to Pittsburgh. JUST an example ....

Someone slap me for posting that...

 Kathy

And I do have a suggestion for you to mull over kathy, if your eldest son (23) and finance stayed home and you and Alyssa and the youngest child only went that would be almost as much as five people for the four day and you all could do the seven day instead. If Alyssa really has her heart set on the seven day you could even offer for just you and her to do it and have the rest of the family stay home and they could go another time when you are able to afford it. If it were just the two of you on the seven day the amount would actually be LESS than having five people on a four day. Also I don't know what level cabin you have but you could request it be downgraded to a cheaper one to spread the funds around more?

Eleven year olds are still pretty young children. If she doesn't get any sense of disappointment from anyone else, I can't imagine that a child that age wouldn't just take it as a new adventure to tackle the four night activities. Gosh...I bet most everyone would like to spend as long as possible on the beautiful ships (I can think of a beautiful condo built right into one of the decks just for us!) , but the expense isn't feasable for many. Keep your smiling face on, tell it a 4 night trip is wonderful, and start planning anew. Any Disney cruise is amazing...it will be a great trip!

I send donations to Make a Wish. It is a great organization. If everyone here wants to do something for the kids going on the cruise, maybe contact the headquarters of MAW and seek advice. Maybe they can send messages to Ann or whoever the contact person becomes when they have a cruise wish and the appeal could be reported here. Those wishing could send donations to the local MAW for that child and have the fund administered by their coordinator?

Hey Kathy~
we would never slap you!! But you are thinking along the same idea as me... I think we should set up a DIS account with DCL, that we could contribute to for ill children/wish trips.

can anyone elaborate, maybe we can get these ideas working??

would be who would do the bookkeeping and management of it. I don't think DCL would be willing to do that. I still think the best hope would be if we could convince them to waive the minmum stateroom credit purchase amount. Then if we posted the cabin number and sail date or even sail date and name of ill children people could call and purchase via their creditcard onboard credit for the child. The bookkeeping would be simple as it is the same as if I ordered a credit for anyone. The only difference is it would not have to be a $25.00 minimum which could be pretty steep.
I just checked their printable stateroom gifts order form and saw that the stateroom credit starts at 25.00 and has several other amounts but then there is a blank line with a box to fill in yourself. I am going to email them and see if there is indeed a minimum of 25.00 or could people just do five or ten dollars via that write in line. If they ok that then I think we could set up some type of thread at the top that would state the cases of ill children and anyone willing or wishing to send a credit could do so via the 800#. I am going to email them now.
