I'm absolutely amazed that this thread made it THIS long before it took a nasty turn. It started out with people fantasizing about spending some adults only time at the Magic Kingdom... something we know Disney will never actually do.... but fun to talk about. If it's not something you're interested in, why do you have to bother to join the thread? Oh. Wait. To argue.

Now, the thread has degenerated to arguments about strollers (always a fun subject) and (even more fun!) "how I get more love from my child than you ever will from anyone else."

I am sitting on a bench in magic kingdom when my foot gets run over by a stroller, that is not my fault. I am standing in an isle of one of the stores looking to buy a gift if you need to get by try saying excuse me not ram your stroller to get by.

I didn't say all, I said most.
Yes there are rude people with strollers who use them to push through a crowd.
But there's just as many if not more rude people without stollers who push their way through a crowd causing their own feet to get run over.

To answer your question why? It's called Point of View. Freedom of Speech. (we still have that...for now)
If you don't want to hear other points of view maybe avoid threads with the subject is a point of view. This is an open forum for all points of views, not restricted to agreeing to what others have said.

And I do feel the love for your child is the greatest love.
For whatever reason someone doesn't or can't, then in my opinoin they are missing out on something great and is a shame. That as I said, is my opinoin.
Doesn't mean you have to have a child or be with a child to enjoy WDW. I've taken some great trips to WDW without kids also.

And to answer why I think some people don't get it, I think these quotes say it all.

I love to see the children especially the little ones all dressed up. That is wonderful but lets remember the adults and have 1 place that is not too expensive and child free.

I think the reason that I found your comments offensive is because this gets thrown in my face time and time again. It is tiring and it gets old. You say that it's sad, however, I am perfectly happy. I have recognized that children are not a reality for me with all my challenges and I'm OK with that. Not everyone is meant to have children. No need for parents to keep making me feel bad about my choices. To bring children into my life would be purely selfish and dangerous. I'm not willing to risk their lives like that.

I also have to believe that Walt would like to see adults having a little slice of the park to enjoy for themselves. He enjoyed playing with his toys just as much as we do (ever seen the pics of him driving the fire truck down Main Street?). I personally think he would have got a kick out of seeing adults act like children. I also don't think it's bad for adults to have nights away from children because it's a time for them to reconnect and make their bond stronger. Anything that makes the family bond stronger is good. After all, the family is the building block of society.

I think that when people choose to make remarks like "that's why I'm so glad I don't have kids" , suggest that parents who don't have their children in bed at a 'reasonable hour' are irresponsible and act as if everyone with a stroller is a maniac looking to make other's lives miserable (specifically theirs) you deserve what you get. Are you really so surprised that folks came out on the defensive?

Disney was created with children in mind. How would you all (in support of an adults' only day/night) feel if those of us with kids wanted a families with children only day/night and defended it by saying things like "wouldn't it be nice if our kids didn't have to wait so long so Mr. and Mrs. Happy could get a picture with Pooh?" and "wouldn't it be nice if we didn't have to wait so long in line for 'kiddie' rides' because of all the 'adults' in line too?". I may not personally feel that way but I'm betting some parents do and would love a night/day without all you singles/married without kids. How would some of you react to such commentary. I'm willing to bet YOU wouldn't like it either.

Now THAT'S a reasonable person with a great argument. Nice and diplomatic with an understandable desire for a child-free night and EVEN presents a great idea on how families WITH kids could benefit too! If everyone had approached this thread in that manner everyone would still be smiling

As a mom I don't usually wander over to this board but the topic intrigued me. At first my back went up. How dare you? Then I took a step back. There's a reason DP and I have put the kids in the Neverland Club for one night of each of our last trips. It's nice to be out without the kids.

I think it would be kind of nice. And people with and without kids have a right to fantasize about it.

I remember when DP and I took our honeymoon in 1996, we went to Pleasure Island. It was about 10:00 at night and a lot of people with children were appalled at some of the behaviour in the NIGHT CLUB we were in. I don't care if it's Disney World, it's still a club and kids don't belong there. That was before I was a parent and I still feel the same way. My kid shouldn't be in there. My kid also shouldn't be running ripshod without supervision or while being supervised for that matter.

So hey, here's one (or another, I haven't read all the posts) parent that thinks it would be cool.

this whole category is "adults and solo travelers" . I have heard, time and again, "disney is for kids". but not from Disney themselves, they encourage honeymooners, singles, retirees, etc.
why is it insulting to suggest an adults only day? they have already taken away Pleasure Island. on another thread, someone suggested changing Atlantic city Dance hall to a restaurant, with a counter service. Once we walked out of kimonos (Swan) for karaokee. hubby is quite the crooner! the rotation for singing was an hour long, due to 9-14 year old girls singing. this was at 10 pm.
what about an adults only hot tub at the resorts?
on yet another thread, someone called me selfish for staking out a spot for illuminations or a parade for an hour, then not letting families come up at the last minute, and get in front of us. (I Do let the kids in front, but not their parents).
of course, the adults only time wouldn't be at peak times, when kids are out of school.
it probably would never happen, but this category of the boards is for adults and solo travelers to discuss our wants, wishes, desires. If you don't like what we talk about here, go over to the "disney with families" section.
and, yes I could see a "families with kids only" time for Mk, or at least Fantasy land. becasue hubby and I Do take up spots in line, with no kids, to do most of those rides. (if we let every family with kids go in front of us, we would never go on)
hubby and I will ALWAYS give up seats on the bus (even though he has had 5 foot surgeries) for kids, or moms holding kids, etc. but there comes a point when we want to enjoy our trip, too. and we love seeing children enjoy "the world".

I don't think an adults only night at WDW is insulting. Lord knows I need my own time to myself without my son hanging off my leg! However, it could have been just that. I think some people started stooping to insulting parents in general and I think its a little too much.

And to the person that said only children who can walk should be allowed inside Disney so there are no strollers. My son was 3 last year when I took him, fully capable of walking, and he was in a stroller. Take away the strollers, increase the temper tantrums when their legs hurt No way am I carrying an almost 40 lb child all over the park!

I think just about every group gets the insensitive treatment at one time or another on these boards. As an overweight person and an ECV user because of a health condition, trust me, I bear my fair share of insensitive and negative comments around here and in the parks. No one is immune to it unfortunately...

"Date Nites" Begin at Disneyland
This day in 1957 literally changed Disney theme parks as we know them today with the premiere of Date Nite at Disneyland. For Disneyland's first two years it was primarily a daytime park, but beginning in May 1957 it would begin nighttime operation, daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. A month later, with the new Date Nite concept, it would extend its operating hours until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, and for the first time attempt to attract young dating couples as a dating hot spot. Couples could purchase Date Nite discounted tickets which permitted admission only after 5 p.m. Initial planning for Date Nite presented challenges, such as which attractions, shops and restaurants would remain open during that time, but it was Walt Disney himself who insisted that as long as the park is open, any guests must experience the full Disneyland show, and thus all should remain open. With a large enough space for a band and dancing as well as an adjacent food and beverage facility, Carnation Plaza Gardens became the chosen central Date Nite location. The local Elliott Brothers band was brought in as the Date Niters, who could perform everything from the slow dances to rock 'n' roll to the La Raspa, which became a Date Nite tradition. With the new extended hours, nighttime entertainment and the opportunity for romantic rides in the cool moonlight, Date Nite also launched Disneyland's first fireworks show. Undoubtedly, Date Nite not only led the way for theme parks worldwide but opened the doors to later nighttime entertainment, such as Disney's Electrical Parade, Fantasmic! , and the all-new World of Color at Disney California Adventure.

8 o'clock bedtimes were invented by adults who wanted alone time. Some kids really can do just fine late into the evening when allowed to sleep in or get an extra nap the next day. And don't forget that families with little kids don't necessarily enjoy getting rammed/run over by strollers and listening to other people's whiny kids either (our own are bad enough). Those late night hours provide the opportunity for a nice relaxing time in the park for us (and our children) too!

When me and my family are in WDW this August, I have every intention of letting my 10 and 12 year old stay in Magic Kingdom until 2am on EMH night. We have a sleep in morning/laundry planned, late start at Downtown disney for disney quest, then a cool supper at MK THEN Magic Kingdom until 2am.
