If it makes you feel better, it's not hurting anyone.... so go ahead:thumbsup2Have a fun trip whatever you decide.

Yes, I'd think you were a total nutter and I'd probably look at you funny.

The question is, do you care what I think? I can't imagine why. ;)

at first glance you will look like one of the help

at second look, people will figure something's wrong with you, at least your hand

I would think it was weird and I am pretty sure it would be mentioned on one of the weirdest/strangest things you've seen at Disney threads by someone who saw you.

I also think it will in no way help you given everything else you will touch without the gloves.

That being said if doing that will make you feel better than more power to you :thumbsup2

buffets gross me out already, yuck. we don't eat at them in the "real" world at all. generally not high quality food, and we have food allergies to deal with too.

I **am** a total germaphobe and we always wash hands or use gel before eating. so at a buffet, with hundreds of people touching the serving spoons, we WILL use gel before actually eating.

I don't think I'd ever bother with gloves, seems over the top. just use gel if you are concerned. And yeah, like others have said, that doesn't help with people sticking their hands in stuff, kids sneezing, etc.

which is why buffets gross me OUT. We're doing THREE of them at Disney, yikes. but my kids will be thrilled, lol

Perhaps you might want to reevaluate visiting a buffett.

OP, if I saw someone wearing disposable plastic gloves at a buffet, I would think that the person was a staff member, or, that they had an infectious skin disease--and should probably not be handling utensils handled by others in the first place, for fear of spreading disease to others.

OP here. No, don't have OCD but have had both of my children get vomiting the last day we left WDW (on two separate visits). And, I have to disagree about I would have to wear gloves all around disney (handrails, rides etc). When you are at a buffet, you are going to eat and have hand to mouth contact. This is how one usually gets the Norovirus. I am a licensed health inspector, so go to many classes on communicable diseases. Another thing, when I enter a hotel room, I bring sanitizer wipes and sanitize the doorknobs, remote etc. In the past, I have not been vigilant with making sure my children and myself wash our hands every time before we eat, but this trip I will. Why? Because after spending $4,000. on a vacation I don't want one or more of us sick with vomiting. To each his own.

PS The reason for gloves instead of sanitizer is because they say sanitizer does not kill the norovirus.

Avoid buffets and prblem solved.

Thoug, must tell you what goes on at a buffet is nothign compared to what goes on behind the scenes at a restaurant.

I think you must relaize there is no evidence that your children vomiting is in any way directly related to eating at a buffet.

Well, you asked for DISers' opinions--and we're experts at our opinions. ;)

You asked how abnormal you will look if you're wearing disposable gloves at a buffet. I'm afraid the consensus is "very." You can do with that info what you will.

Anyone else ever do this? Will people look at me like this:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm with Praying Colonel - the question above is what you asked. The answers unanimously here seem to be "no" and "yes." You sound like you already made up your mind on what you will be doing - based on your explanation and reasoning - so why ask the question anyway?

No, haven't definetely made up my mind that I will wear one, that is why I'm asking the question. I inspect restaurants on a daily basis and foodhandlers must wear disposable gloves, so it's very common for me to see. (yes, I know I'm not a foodhandler) Perhaps, I will just run and wash my hands and let my food cool down a bit. Thanks for the honest opinions. Linda

I agree that you are probably better off skipping the buffets. We use purell fairly constantly throughout our trip. I do worry much more about the handrails and grab bars on rides honestly and we purell way more often than real life at WDW. No matter how well you teach them kids will touch their faces and noses, etc so purell through the day makes me feel better and hand washing whenever we get a chance. WHen people do get sick at WDW they seem to want to keep going and not stay in the room and rest so I think it's worse than normal there and we act accordingly but no gloves ;) Sorry....

I know this may seem like a stange question but we have a big box of plastic disposable gloves that I was thinking of putting on one of my hands that I use to retrieve all the food at buffets (large serving spoons, tongs etc). I know some of you might say, why don't you just wash your hands. Well, I will before I go up to the buffet but once I get my food, I don't want it sitting at the table while I go to wash my hands. So many people handle the serving utensil at these buffets and I don't want to pick up some nasty virus right before I eat. Anyone else ever do this? Will people look at me like this:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

One can't be too careful. E coli, salmonella, wear the gloves and don't feel bad.

I think that if Norovirus broke out via one of the disney buffets it would not be a quiet event. And if vomiting was all your children were doing, it was most likely not noro - noro is a both ends kind of thing, something I WISH I didn't know :sad2:.

Also, having been on many cruise ships, if purell doesn't kill norovirus bacteria, they cruise lines sure are wasting a lot of it b/c they make passengers purell before every meal.

In your shoes I'd either skip the buffets (b/c w/ the fear of bacteria you probably won't enjoy yourself) or do hand sanitizing before meals.

Either way, I hope you will enjoy your trip!

I tell those germs to BRING IT ON.. I walk up and lick the closest door handle I can find!! What doesnt kill you makes you stronger I always say!!! :thumbsup2

To the OP, do what you want, but a) I would think there wasnt soemthing quite right with ya and b) as others have said how are you not going to touch anything else the whole time?

Best answer yet.

And as others have said, maybe buffets aren't for you (and if that's the case, I totally understand it).

To be honest, if I was a food inspector, I'd probably never eat out again.

Just throwing in my opinion here too....

I probably wouldnt think anything was wrong with you if I saw you get food with a glove on. I may think it is a little weird or maybe that you/your children didnt have a very good immune system, but not a big deal. And really, who cares what anyone else thinks? More than likely you will not know anyone there or see them other than that time your at WDW.

On a side note, I do not think the only thing to worry about would be the buffets utencils. If you want to go to that extent, I too would be concerned about rails, chairs, door knobs, etc because no matter how old your children are, their hands will end up in their mouth sometime over your trip (nail bitting, nose picking, etc)

Just do what you think is good for your family and dont worry about it. Have a great time!

This is one reason I don't do buffets but if u wear glove who cares what others think. You do what YOU think it best. :cool1:
