Houston-- its a go.. My first Solo trip!! LEAVING TODAY!!

Sounds like a fun trip is ahead for you. Its funny that I approached my own DH the other night about going solo for almost essentially the same dates as you. He shockingly said yes...but then my teenagers freaked. Guilt may either keep me home or make me bring them with me (since it is their spring break), but then that negates the whole solo trip in the first place. Either way, I'm looking forward to hearing about your upcoming trip. :goodvibes

Welcome :wizard: and thank you for stopping by..

Thats funny that you also went to your husband about the solo trip.. I know what you mean about the guilty feelings.. I havent even told my kiddos that I was going.. but I take them on so many other trips.. I took DD for her 16th birthday as a mom and me trip and I took DD11 a few years ago just her and me and then took her again with me and DH.. I took my son to New York City last year.. and then a few years on spring break, I took all 3 of them by myself.. so believe me, they are not deprived.. I was actually thinking this evening to myself that I would love to maybe take them on another trip by myself in the next year or so..

Im the kind of mom that loves to do for my kiddos rather than myself..

Hi Bettyann -

I'm enjoying reading your PTR!! I am amazed at how quickly you pulled this trip together!!!

It looks like you are going to have a fantastic time!!! :woohoo:

As for eating alone, I was skeptical about eating alone during my upcoming solo trip. But thanks to the DIS, I am no longer worried. After reading several threads, I found that most solo travelers found it easy to dine alone in WDW. Alot of people felt that the servers paid you a little more attention to them and they did not feel self conscience at all.

The other reason is that I have found several DISers who will be in WDW the same time as me. I will be meeting them for meals as well as touring the parks! Gotta love the DIS!

I know what you are going through. I am taking a solo trip in May sans kids. My oldest DS (20) wasn't upset once he realized he'd be home alone :rotfl: But my youngest DS (15) was VERY upset when I first told him. Guess what? He got over it and I will be going on my first solo trip to WDW!!! Do I feel guilty? Not one iota :thumbsup2

Welcome Angela :wizard:

Im amazed too!!:rotfl2: I've actually wanted to be able to plan a trip at the last second on the fly and see how it goes, but unfortunately with airfare prices, thats practically impossible.. I have to book at least 21 days out.. I probably would have done something closer to that timeline except my DD just had surgery and I will be working from home to be with her until she returns to school which should be right before my solo trip.. DH will be here so I wont have to worry about who's watching the kids.. My kids are older though and pretty much take care of themselves.. they are ages 11, 15 and 17.. I pretty much just have to throw them some food every now and then and they are good to go.. :lmao: :rotfl: just kidding.. but really I only cook their meals and thats about it.. they are past the age of having to have me with them at all times.. so that gives me my freedom..

Im just excited that today is one day closer.. 36 more days to go.. woohoo

Me too!! They look so cute.. :goodvibes I put all my items in the quart size bag tonight..

I found my mini backpack that I picked up on my last WDW trip.. It holds jibbitz just like the crocs do.. I'll post a picture tomorrow.. Its the coolest bag Ive ever owned.. ;)

Just another update.. :goodvibes

went to the grocery store today and while I was there I picked up some items for breakfast.. I got some Chex Mix Cereal bars and a box of granola bars.. Im good to go for breakfast now and snacks to take in the parks with me.. Now I know me.. and I know how much I love my snacks.. I figure I will keep my lunch and dinner to a minimum and pick something off the kids menu .. I'll check out the menus on allears.net and see what I might be looking for in each of the parks.. Its sad that I already am thinking about what snacks I want to get in each of the parks..

Let me see..

Magic Kingdom- Dole Whip.. what else..
Epcot- Kaki Gori (its a snow cone)
Animal Kingdom- To be determined
Hollywood Studios- To be determined..

If anyone has any suggestions.. please let me know..

Someone posted on the "Best Snacks Ever" thread posted that they like the "Carrot Cake Cookie" at DHS. That sounds yummy!

I've never tried the kaki gori! Is it really just a snow cone or is it different? I'm not a big snow cone fan, that syrup is WAY too sweet for me.

Do you happen to know where in DHS they have this?? I looked on allears.net at the menus and cant find any place that lists this.. I do see Carrot Cake, but not carrot cake cookie.. I did find one place that said assorted cookies.. Im thinking I have to find out where to find this because it sounds YUMMY!!!

I've never had one, but my understanding is that its a regular snow cone.. Every time I go I want to get it but Im usually full by the time I make it to Japan.. My normal snack in Epcot is Schoolbread, but since Im going by myself and its huge and I cant really eat anything with bread products as I have problems with that, I decided not to go with my normal snack and try the Kaki Gori this time.. I will be sure to report back once I try it to let everyone know more about it..

I already know Im doing the Dole Whip in MK as that is a must do on every trip, but if I go with the cookie in DHS, I still need a snack for AK.. any suggestions there??

I've been looking at the menus and think I know where I want to eat...

DHS:

L- Studio Catering Company
D- ABC Commissary

Epcot:

L- Yakitori House in Japan
D- Sunshine Seasons ( Im finding things in The Grill that I like)

MK:

L- Cosmic Rays
D- Casey's Corner (hot dog minus the bun :goodvibes )

AK:

L- Rainforest Cafe (still up in the air on this one)
if I dont do RFC then I am looking at Flame Tree BBQ..

I figure I'll pick up dinner at the airport.. not sure yet though..

I saw a post that said that the carrot cake cookies are at the Writer's Stop.

I'm subbing.

First, I GOTTA get me that bag! I am super exicted to be staying at POP in May just for the bag! No kidding! What's funny is I have a zillion of them. :goodvibes DH just did the dance of joy when I took a big ol' box to our storage locker! But I'm getting that bag!!!!

Second, :scared1: :scared1: skip Beauty and the Beast? :scared1: That is my all time favorite show and I could see it a zillion times and still go back for one more. You can't skip it. :sad1:

Love your plans. It sounds awesome. You have to tell me how the Commissary is. We have not had luck there at all and I want to try again, but I'm :scared: so I will be anxiously awaiting your TR (you are doing on, right?) when you get back.

Also can't wait to hear about the Flower and Garden Festival.

Keep the plans coming! Can't wait to hear more!

Welcome :wizard: Thanks for coming over here.. I decided to separate the 2 PTR's so I dont get confused.. :rotfl: Im getting older so the less confusion, the better..

That bag is the entire reason I decided to go with POP :rotfl: I HAVE to have it! I dont care if I dont buy anything else, I will have that bag.. DH and everyone else that knows me makes fun of all my bags.. I have sooooo many, but Im addicted to bags and shoes.. I cant help it.. :thumbsup2

I know I know.. I dont think I will be missing Beauty and the Beast show.. I've grown quite fond of this one.. I havent gotten to see it many times as DH thinks its ok, but thats about it.. so I dont usually push that one on him or even the kids when they go.. Im thinking if its between B&TB and Tot and RNR, I will go see the show as DH loves TOT and RNR and I can always ride those with him when we go later this year..

Im thinking me and DH have eaten at The Commissary..if its the one thats on the way to Startours and before Sci Fi on the right.. Im thinking last year we stopped in there for a quick bite to eat.. But I will definitely come back and let you know once I go there..

YES.. I will definitely be doing a Trip Report for this trip.. :thumbsup2 That way I can post my pictures and talk about how it went and especially put up my Flower and Garden pictures.. I love love love going this time of the year because its always so pretty there..
