This will be our first trip with DVC. So excited! We have only been to DW one other time. I have a question about tipping housekeeping.

When we went last year we left an envelope with tip every day for housekeeping. With DVC, I am unsure how this works? We are doing a split stay; 5 days at Kidani and 8 days at BLT. So, do we only leave one tip for day 4 when housekeeping comes. I am assuming you do not tip for the first day because they are not cleaning up after you? Due to my length of stays being too short for the additional days of housekeeping (unless pay extra for) then is my count right of only one day of tipping for housekeeping. Please let me know if this is correct, I do not want to under tip.

Also, for transfer of my bags from AK to BLT, who do I tip? The staff at AK and BLT? Is there more than one individual at each hotel that I need to tip for transporting bags?

Thanks for any help.

Housekeeping is a non-tipped position. Unless you are leaving a big mess for the housekeepers, there really isn't any need to tip. They are paid a higher rate than most of the other positions. Plus extras for getting rooms completed early.

Bell Services is a tipped position. You pretty much offer a tip to anyone who touches your bags that you see. The person who picks them up from your room and the person who delivers them to your new room. $1 per bag is about the norm unless you have very heavy or numerous small bags.

To tip or not to tip seems to be a hot topic here. I tip housekeeping because I want to. Here's what I do for a DVC stay...to be clear, we hang a do not disturb sign out on our door for stays under 8 days because we prefer not to be bothered. Often when we do that at 'towel' day there will be a basket outside our door so we can help ourselves to clean towels, etc.

1 studio ....$5.00 at the end of our stay.
1 bedroom ... $10.00 at the end of our stay, or for a stay longer than 8 days, we leave $10.00 for the full cleaning day, then another $10.00 at the end of the stay when housekeeping (of course) does another full cleaning.

I don't tip because Disney and their Union has agreed that it is a non-tipped position.

More importantly, I don't tip because they don't do anything special for me and usually they do a below average job cleaning our room. Tipping would only send a wrong message, but that's my opinion.

I have CMs that are family members. They have told me that all tips to non-tipped postions are suppost to be turned in for a CM only party at the end of the year.

I wrote an email to DVC regarding whether mousekeepers could keep tips. Here is the reply I got:

I always tip housekeepers for trash and towel service, for full cleaning
and at checkout. Some DVCers are saying that Disney does NOT want me to
do that. Some are saying housekeepers can't keep tips. Could a DVC
housekeeping manager please email me to let me know in writing what
Disney's policy is on tipping DVC housekeepers?

Hello Jean,

Thank you for contacting DISNEY VACATION CLUB®.

for Housekeeping. Members may, also, leave any unopened foods that they
do not wish to take with them for housekeepers as well.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

Sincerely,

Thank you to all who posted advice. It was very helpful. I personally want to tip someone, who is in a tippable position. I also respect that others have different opinions on this matter.

I am definitely checking out the thread on tipping for DVC stays.

Thank you for this point. I had always wondered as we often end up with some odds and ends that I would rather someone could use vs. going into the garbage (often including beers believe it or not LOL). :thumbsup2

We always tip mouse keeping. We also offer any items that we have left at the end of our trip to the. We always see someone from mouse keeping in the hall when we are leaving. They are not allowed to accept any beer or alcohol, wine. They are always appreciative.

It seems that this has always been a very hot topic and as previously posted, I respect all views but I do tip on trash & towel and full cleaning even though I tie up all the garbage bags and towels are in the tub. I do appreciate the little towel art but most of all, I appreciate what they do. It's just a small gesture.

Thanks for the info Jean! We always tip like $5-$8 bucks or so, plus we usually have unopened provisions when we leave, so I'm glad to know they are not just going to waste. :)

I have found that leftover beer is gladly accepted by both mousekeeping and bell services! :rotfl2:

Thanks Jean for sharing the email from DVC regarding tipping and leftover foods. It's good to know what to do with leftover unopened items.
