Housekeeping Services

You do get dish soap and dishwasher detergent, and can ask for more of that for free. Some members bring some additional cleaning supplies such as Lysol. There is a vacuum, paper towels and a sponge. (this is all a one bedroom or bigger, I'm not sure what's in a studio)

You want your own food consumables...i,e. coffee filters (basket type), coffee, salt and pepper, sugar, etc.

Do they give you enough towels to last 4 days or are you using the same towel each day?
The number of towels you get depends on the room size you booked and the resort. For example, in a 1BR at BWV you get 4 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 4 wash cloths. In a 1BR at AKV's Kidani Village (which has a second bathroom) you get another 2 (or maybe it was 4?) bath towels in the second bathroom along with 2 more hand towels and more wash cloths. The towels are replaced every four days. A 1BR also gives you a washer/dryer so you can wash the towels whenever you like, provided you bring or buy laundry detergent since you only get enough for one load every four days.

The pools have towels available so you don't need one from your room right?
Correct, towels are provided at the pool so your room towels do not need to do double duty as pool towels.

Do they give you laundry detergent or do you need your own?
One single-load box will be on the washing machine when you check in (to a 1BR, 2BR, GV). You can get a replacement box every four days. You can purchase single-load boxes in the laundry room at the resort or large bottles in the resort's store.

Soap, shampoo is provided like the regular hotel rooms?
Yes you get large soaps for the tubs and showers, small soaps for the bathroom sinks, plus shampoo and conditioner (one bottle of each for each tub and shower). You do not get any lotion however.

Anything I miss about housekeeping, I can always just pick up the room phone to call the front desk - coffee, towels, extra pillows, blankets in the middle of the night (well, you get the idea).

Reality: I usually hang the tag on the door to keep housekeeping out of my room.

:dance3:

We have taken 3 DVC trips and have always paid for extra housekeeping. I know my wife well enough to know that she would spend an hour cleaning if nobody was coming for a few days, and I don't want to subject her to that on vacation.

We usually add one day of towel service and one day of cleaning so we generally are not going more than one full day without something. Of course this varies based on split stays, etc...

I will say that our scheduled cleanings have never once gone as scheduled. The day we have an extra cleaning scheduled I almost expect to walk in the door at the end of the day and call housekeeping to ask why they never arrived, usually they send somebody then and there (if it's not too late in the day/evening) or do it the next morning. Last year we had somebody show up to do T&T 45 minutes after they had done a full cleaning.

As someone that got used to DVC when I recently started traveling more for work I was surprised how much it annoyed me when housekeeping was coming in to do stuff. No I wasn't there but I hated having to make sure all my stuff was away so that it wasn't all out when people came and didn't get moved around.

Given that we are usually in our room between 1-5 pm for lunch, naps, changing out of swimsuits, etc. we are glad to not have housekeeping come every day. I think it depends on personal preference. I typically leave my "do not disturb" sign up when I stay in hotels as well.

Since the AP discount increased to $149, I suddenly feel more special......:goodvibes

Extra coffee and towels will cost you. They're not free other than the ones they provide on service days.

Agreed :cheer2:

You know I hate doing laundry at home but really enjoy it at DVC. :laundy:

And never miss having daily maid service. I like the privacy and lack of interruption while taking a nap.

I know this is a silly question, but if there is less housekeeping services are the rooms less likely to be as clean as regular rooms at WDW? I'm considering renting points.

Why would you think that? There are trash rooms to take your trash to, vacuum cleaners in the villas so you can vacuum up your messes, dishwashers to wash your dishes in, etc. The housekeepers aren't wasting their time all day long making beds except for full cleanings.
