Housekeeping coming back?

We’ve been here since Friday and have had no housekeeping at all— no trash pick up, no towels. That’s why I’m starting to wonder if I accidentally chose no housekeeping. Even if it’s every other day, we should have had trash collected and fresh towels at least once.

I paid almost the same price to stay at the Four Seasons in July, and there was daily housekeeping. I’m not sure I want to keep paying full price to stay on site when I could have an actual deluxe experience staying elsewhere. We have a stay planned for Thanksgiving, but after that, I’m not sure we will continue staying on site.
Give front desk or housekeeping a call. I don't even know if "no housekeeping" is an option at the Poly.

I would suggest stopping by the front desk and asking to be added to the rotation if you're there past tomorrow.

I called before we headed out for our day today. They said they would bring us more towels and coffee while we’re out. I think declining housekeeping is an option, but maybe not. I know I had to select something for a housekeeping option, and I think the choices were every other day towels/trash and the other option was decline all housekeeping. I think I possibly chose that one by mistake.

Disney is unlikely to ever go back to regular housekeeping unless guest and DVC members demand it like they did Ohana noodles. Speaking from past experience housekeepers at Disney are some of the lowest paid in Orlando. They are also not getting the kinda tips you think they are. For those that do tip you are great and greatly appreciated, but the only perk to a Disney housekeeper is your unopened items. My friend used to work at Port Orleans and I worked between two DVCs and we would get together at the end of the day and pool the dish soaps, unopened grocery, and laundry items and distribute them amongst each other and our fellow housekeepers. We might have gotten $40 in tips between the two of us if it was a fully occupied resort day.

Hotel housekeepers communicate a lot with one another. They know which company pays the best and have the best benefits. Disney ranks shockingly low on the list of places to work and now with more restrictions on park entry they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Did you call guest services to figure what is going on?

I usually decline housekeeping and have for at least the last decade or so. I don't like people coming into my space and always felt like I had to 'clean' up and put everything away before they came in.

I will miss the gift card (and I believe Marriot or Hilton gave me extra points in their reward program). But that's really only been a perk for the last few years.

I have never needed someone to clean up after me for only a week's worth of stay so it was just always easier to ask them to not service my room daily and then ask for towels as needed. Even trash was easy enough to take to a larger container in the hall or lobby on my way out for the day.

I guess the only downside is if you have a larger party you now have to ask for towels more frequently, and maybe the sweeping of the floors.

I feel like it really is not going to come back except in the higher end resorts (not Disney cause honesty I never really felt like you can compare them to real world deluxe hotels) and spas. Like Turndown Service or something.

It definitely is frustrating not having enough coffee in the room. Last trip we stayed at Poly and I had to ask for it off the house keeping cart.

I am not sure what is going on anymore with housekeeping and maintenance at the hotels anymore. It kind of seems hit or miss depending on the resort these days. A few weeks ago we stayed 3 nights at GF and they came every day and swapped out towels and took the garbage out. This weekend we stayed at CBR and had a tough time getting anyone to bring coffee and take our trash, let alone every other day service. Last month at Copper Creek someone came everyday to take our garbage while we were out and they left towels on the bed....so I don't know anymore. We are easy and keep a clean room, so it is no bother to us either way, but I am on the side of for what they are charging, they can do mousekeeping.... I think it is not really because they want to save money...it is because they are having a tough time staffing the resorts, in just about all areas from housekeeping to bartending...

Seems lowered expectations are flourishing here. I enjoy my room being clean everyday when I come home from the parks.

1. I didn't lower my expectations, I don't want housekeeping and only care that they bring me the occasional item when I call and request it, so I get what I expect.

2. My room is clean, cause I'm not dirty, I'm an adult and can pick up after myself.

Now if the room was not cleaned on my check in day or was missing items like TP or Towels, that would be a problem. So far the two hotel stays I've had since it all went down in 2020, that was not an issue. Trash in the hallway, that is something that is hit and miss and has been since the dawn of hospitality as a business.

This is how we feel. It's not like they did a full clean every day anyway. They would hang your towels, make the beds, and take out the trash. Sometimes we would get a housekeeper that wiped down the bathroom sink but I really don't like anyone coming in and touching all of my stuff. I have been places where they rearrange my toiletries and it grosses me out when someone touches my toothbrush. It's OK to come in, take the trash, and bring in new towels. But I also hate how they make the beds since I then have to untuck the whole thing every night. We are also pretty clean people. We rehang our towels, wipe up the sink, and contain our garbage. My aunt was a housekeeper for a hotel and she said that it's unbelievable how some people make such a mess.

So, I too have the toothbrush phobia of someone touching it. Like legit, I will not even leave my toothbrush OUT on the counter at home much less someplace where someone might touch it. Heck I travel with an extra toothbrush just in case I think someone touched it or if it falls on the counter. I'm just that paranoid. LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Absolutely not happening.

I am not that bad, but it is still really gross and kind of feels like and invasion of privacy. The problem with housekeeping is that you don't know which level of service you are going to get. Some only do the basics, like trash and towels, others will touch pretty much everything in the room. I have had them rearrange my stuff on the dresser as well as my toiletries. No thanks. So, for me, I just rather they not come in at all and just bring me towels and pick up trash when I ask.

I am exactly the same! I also don’t leave my toothbrush out at home because it just seems gross. Someone could touch it or not close the lid on the toilet or…better to just put it away! I always keep it in my toiletries bag when I travel, and I keep a spare one in my carry-on luggage just in case. 🤣

We were at the YC last week for 10 days, and got housekeeping every other day, and all but one time they did they full room, beds made and everything. We were really surprised, it was better than expected! Bonus, after running into a housekeeper our second day and requesting additional coffee, they left a TON of coffee each time they came in to clean. That alone made me love our housekeepers this trip!

I’m not afraid of people coming into my room and touching my toothbrush either if we want to talk about being an adult.

We’re at the Polynesian right now... I’m disappointed with not having daily housekeeping. I take out the trash daily out home…I’m not paying these very high room rates to take out my own trash on vacation.
We were at the GF in May... I don't believe you selected "no housekeeping"--there just isn't any.
Just returned from an eight day stay at the beach club and trash and towel service for every other day...

At the prices they're charging, they better be bringing up some damn towels when requested. Enough already with the excuses. I wouldn't even expect that from a Motel 6, let alone a Disney resort.

I agree with the above. When I am paying $800+/night to stay at Poly, CR, GF, BC, YC.. Im sorry but I expect daily housekeeping/room turn over.. between that and having to deal with paper plates and plastic utensils/cups for room service or no room service available at all on our post reopening trips I’m starting to ask myself whether it is still worth it as well. Who am I kidding, I’m not going to stay off site.. but, still, I really want to start to see these things start to return, as they are part of the experience for me.

...stayed at a four star hotel in Miami over Labor Day weekend that cost half what I’ll be paying per night at Poly next month and there was daily housekeeping + evening turn down service. I don’t know that’s it’s still a matter of not being able to do it anymore or do it safely.. that reasoning isn’t going to hold up much longer when we have cast members once again urging guests to “fill in all available space” at the parks.

I do think they really ought to have some sort of length of stay housekeeping exception—in DVC rooms you get full housekeeping on day 4 if you stay 8 nights. For a longer stay, clean sheets and a swept floor are a must.
