Housekeeping and Check In

We are currently staying at Old Key West and I was curious about the recent experiences others have had.

Both here and Saratoga, our check in was 1.5 to 2 hours late.

Every single day we have had someone stop by for trash and towels and literally insist on taking stuff from us even though we didn't need it.

They should really focus more on turning around the rooms instead of providing service we aren't supposed to get and more importantly we don't need. This would likely help them prepare rooms on time, which is really more important.


On a side note, the pull out at OKW is terrible still! For a premium product, we really need to do better or provide another bed!

Funny you mention this, we stayed at BWV and GFV last week and had the same experience regarding daily trash and towel service. It was our first DVC stay, so although I wasn’t expecting it, I thought perhaps there was some change I wasn’t aware of? I think it was day 2 of the trip where MouseKeeping came in while we were getting ready which I completely didn’t expect! So then I made sure to use the door sign everyday, ha!

Daily trash was the change after Vegas.

Daily trash and towel makes it seem like you are in a room housekeeping has marked as a cash stay, instead of a points stay (which I think sometimes if you go to the front desk asking for a room change)

Ok regardless of this opinion it still doesn't change the fact that they can turnover the rooms quicker if they aren't providing services they aren't supposed to. But thank you for sharing.

It's not at all unusual to wait an hour or two. That's particularly so now with staff shortages due to covid.

Trash removal daily IS a standard service since the Vegas shooting. Objecting to it will get you nowhere.

People seem to think that Disney is deliberately keeping their staff levels low to save money. Anyone who has spoken to people within the company knows that this isn't true and that they've been under a mad scramble to get bodies (housekeepers, experienced line cooks, and bus drivers in particular). It's extremely difficult when there's a nationwide labor shortage and the borders are essentially closed.

Then they should really work on efficiently using the staff they have.

They're not conducting a counter-terrorism operation, they're just firming up the security profile of the property overall. If you were going to do some kind of crazy stuff in your hotel room, would you do it in a place where they enter your room every day, or a place where you can keep your Do Not Disturb sign on the door for a month and know that nobody will enter?

I'd rather my room be ready on time. I don't know of any other hotels struggling with either point here at the moment.

Your room still wouldn't have been ready at 4 even if they weren't doing security checks.

All they did was throw a stack of clean towels on the tub and remove the old. No new sheets or coffee or toiletries refilled. And I hate to say this, because I do know they are working extra due to the shortage, but every time I walk through the halls, several mousekeeping employees are on their phones - not sure if it’s with regards to work or not…but no “hello” or “have a great day”. Just heads in phones. The man who takes our trash is amazing, though and as friendly as can be! I look forward to our quick happy chats each day.

They're not on "their phones." Those are company-issued PDAs and they have their deployment information on them, i.e. which rooms require which service on which days. This information used to be on a clipboard but now they can do it electronically and update in real time.

I have a theory.

It starts with "m" and rhymes with "tasks".

And don't forget that the cultural representative program is still suspended because the State department isn't issuing those types of visas due to COVID. This is felt most acutely in Epcot's World Showcase, but also at Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Loge, where many of those excellent cast members were cultural representatives from Africa who currently aren't allowed in the country.
