***HOUSEHOLD ANTS... Kill 'em humanely or nuke 'em w/ chemicals****

Should I continue to be humane to these ants or just nuke 'em with chemicals?

  • Yes, keep using the traps and dryer sheets

  • No, get rid of them faster and just nuke 'em with Raid

  • not sure

  • don't care

I hate having ants in my house! I poured soap in the trail, swept every thing, I just tried a suggestion of putting down fresh dryer sheets (the sheet is supposed to deter the ants in the opposite direction-not!) and I bought Terro a gel/liquid based ant killer food. I get super obsessed over them. They are germy and can get into almost any thing!

Should I continue killing them as nicely as possible or should I just blast them with a chemical spray?

The best luck I've had is with Raid Ant spray. I tried the Raid discs and that seemed to attract more. I had a few ants several weeks ago and since spraying I haven't seen any.

I don't know about killing them humanely, but there is a spray that you can use both outside and inside the house to keep them out. Including most other bugs.

I can't think of the name right now. But It's safe to use inside around people. There is really no strong chemical odor and it lasts for about 6 weeks.
My dad has used it for a number of years. Unfortunately, one year he used after a queen ant got inside my scanner and started a nest.

But when I moved in with my ex-fiance, he had lots of bugs in his house (lived near a wooded area and part of house was subterranean). But after I told him to get this stuff and use it, we no longer had the bugs. :)

If I think of what it is, I'll let you know (and it's not Raid).

I have had the best luck with the Terro traps in addition to Terro ant spray. Be advised that ants LOVE those traps and you are basically inviting them to an all-they-can-eat fatal buffet. If you place the traps on a kitchen counter, then that's where (ewww) hundreds (at least!) of ants will congregate.

agnes!

I have an ant phobia; I simply can't share my house with the nasty little creatures. What I do is when the weather starts to get warm each year I spray ortho ant and bug killer around the outside perimeter of my house. Then I repeat that every two months until the first freeze. It works great. I only ever see a few ants in my house each year. What nasty little things ants are! I HATE them! :crazy2:

We just started getting ants this past week in our house. I don't have any idea where they are coming from, but I am getting tired of them!!! I have some cheap ant spray that I have used and it maybe worked a bit. I am going to get some good stuff and spray everywhere I can!!!

Isn't there a natural remedy like washing your counter tops and floors with eleupys oil(sp and I'm not 100% sure on this one so you might have to do research). But I get traps and put them by the door...I don't have a huge problem and 1-2 traps for the spring summer does the trick for me. The tiny red ones are ok...because they go for the traps, but the big black ones drive me crazy.

Kill the suckers!

I have major any phobia, if I see more than 20 ants together, I panic big time.

For in the house I use the Raid Spray. I have found when we got one of those barrier type pellets for the outside that we really had no more ants inside. I know that there a few out on the market...I just used one by Ortho. Basically you spread the pellets out to make a 2 ft wide path around your house and use extra where you know ants live and it keeps them out for most of the season. I had to do it twice last year and I just did it again this weekend.

My brother and his family have got ants too. Thier biggest problem is mainly at night. My three year old neice will wake up in the morning with bites all over her, :sad2: but none on her two sisters.(sometimes they all sleep together too)They think that they are coming in around the concrete in the unfinished basement. ANY HELP FOR THIS. (Bitting people)
