Hello, This year DH's cousin will be hosting Thanksgiving in her new home. This is her first home but I hear she has everything and anything.

What is a good House Warming Gift that we can give someone who has everything?

$5 says at least 4 people will say "yankee candle 'home sweet home' candles"

i got FOUR of those (the large ones) when I moved into my house! heheh

do they celebrate christmas? why not a "new home" ornament for their tree with the year on it?

i've also found that vases, platters, or even a gift card to target come in handy.

How about a nice floral arrangement with pretty fall colors? It would look nice as a centerpiece on the dinner table at Thanksgiving.

A bottle of wine, if they drink along with some cute wine glass ornaments.
If they have a garden, maybe a new plant or a poinsettia plant to help celebrate the holidays.

I know gift cards are boring, but I know I would love a gift card to Pottery Barn, Williams Sonoma, Crate & Barrel or Target.

How about a Yankee Candle Jar in one of the holiday scents? I know I'd love to get one.

When I saw the thread, that was the first thing that popped into my mind! I love those darn things and just bought "autumn Lodge" It smells great!!!

Candles sounds great! Can never have too many. What is Yankee candle? and where can I get some. I usually get White Barn or some from Walmart....

I think wine would be good but I know nothing about wine.

You can order them on line.

yankeecandle.com or their stores in the mall
linens-n-things
bed bath and beyond

"Home Sweet Home" is popular for 'housewarming' gifts...that's why I mentioned that scent. (Plus it's the 'scent of the month' for November - so 25% off every candle in that scent) And I just happened to move into my house last November...when it was the scent of the month then too!

What about a bottle of champagne to "toast the new home"? White Star is very good - about $25 a bottle depending on where you buy it. I love the wine glass charms too - they are usually very reasonable and if they host parties they will be very handy on any type of stemmed glassware. If you have Pier One near you that is a good place to look, so is Cost Plus World Market.

Thank you for all the ideas. I'm looking at the web site now. There is a bunch of stuff. I might just order some for me too. :teeth: I like the idea about the glass charms too. I will check at our Pier One.

I asked the Dis advice on house warming gifts and they came up with a great idea.

I went to the container store and got a really cool "clear basket"
In the basket contained these items with the note attached to it:
Flowers, so your house may always know beauty.
Bread, so your house may never know hunger.
Wine, so you may never know thirst.
Salt, so that life may always have flavor.
Sugar, so that life will always be sweet.
Candle, so the house will never know darkness.

I bought colored salt and sugar and put it in cool designs. I filled the basket with other goodies and colorful shredded up paper since the basket was clear. It was a hit, everyone was impressed.

When someone new comes on my street, I make up a basket filled with:

A bottle of wine ~ to relieve thurst
A loaf of bread ~ to relieve hunger
A container of salt ~ to prosper

as well as other goodies ~ for the heck of it! :)

oh my.. I love that idea!!!!!!! That is what I'm doing!!! Where can I get colored salt and sugar?

coasters. something people never buy but might like to have.

flowers.

wine charms.

mixed nuts (wrapped up)

I bought colored sugar at Pier 1, and I ordered colored margarita salt online, but if you have a Kohls I noticed that they have Daquiri and Margarita kits that come with colored salt and sugar. It was about a year ago so I am not sure if Pier 1 will still carry the colored sugar and salt. They had a wide variety.

It's so easy to color your own salt and sugar.

Just put salt, sugar in baggies and then add food color of choice until you get desired color. Shake baggies so it's all even.
Put on a pan to dry arrange as you like!

I used to dye tons when the kids were little. We made all sorts of things for all different of occassions!

Have Fun, I think the basket idea with the notes sound GREAT!
I'll have to remember that idea.

Finally coming out of lurk mode with something to contribute.:wave2:

I am a professional ceramic artist. People love giving & getting handmade pottery. It's unique, special, you don't have to worry about the recipient already having one like it. And if it is pretty and decorative enough to stand alone, it doesn't have to match the rest of the dinnerware. Pretty serving bowls are a favorite. It would work well for them to have an extra serving bowl on Thanksgiving.:D
