Hi again. Getting so excited for upcoming trip with my daughter in few weeks. She's 7 but will be turning 8 end of the month, so this is our big celebration while Daddy stays home with the little ones.

In a previous thread I had asked about transportation by train or any other way from Santa Clarita and woo hoo got that all figured out. Hubby dropping us off early Sun morning at Mertrolink (only $10 on Sunday) and we have one transfer at union station then can use our tickets for OCT bus to Disney. Yay! Anyway sorry to be all off topic, but in case anyone else read that thread....

So Sunday we'll have all day to mess around Downtown Disney and our hotel to swim & relax. I just read about the House of Blues Sunday Gospel brunch and it seems like something we would love to do! Questions:

1) any good/bad reviews to share?

2) any way to purchase tickets through another discount site like I did for the hotel (Last Minite Travel - great tip!)?

It's so expensive! At least she's a kid and costs less, but being a buffet and all, we can't even take food to go :(

I know it's not expensive for what you get, good food and show, but just figuring my budget as I already know I'm spending $50 on new light up Mickey ears for us. We don't have a lot of play around money. Fortunately we have AMC passes so we can go to the movies full after HoB of y'all think it's worth it.

Thanks for any help!

I've been to the one in San Diego and I thought it was pretty awesome! The food was good from what I remember, the performance was upbeat and it was a good length. Other people at our table seemed to be really enjoying themselves too and the audience was encouraged to have fun.

Hmmm I'd say do it if you can fit it in your budget. I'd hate to recommend something that's out of your budget and I've only been once, but my two cents is that it is a good thing to do if you have time to waste in Downtown Disney. It is fun and if your DD likes music I'm sure she'll enjoy it.

According to the Disney Passholder page, you save 10% BUT it says "No Special Events." I don't know if the brunch would be considered a special event.

May I share a secret with you?

...I'm not exactly sure what D23 is, either. My sweet DH gave me a membership for my birthday. It's kind of like a Disney fanclub. You pay a fairly small membership fee and you can purchase special pins, sometimes get an early crack at event tickets, and get a card that you can show at a few places to receive a discount. The discounts frequently overlap with AP discounts, I've noticed.

Thanks! I guess it's not totally out if my budget, but it doesn't leave us much for the rest of the trip. Usually I pack tons of food & snacks, but not this time since taking the train down. Traveling light. Don't think my daughter could get her monnies worth on food even if I starve her before. Not sure for me either, but I'd still like to try the experience. Just wondering if any discounts. :)

Oh yeah, you're right... I did use my AP for a discount at a DTD store, but you might be right- this may be considered a special event. I'll call HoB tomorrow & ask.

Funny about the D23. & your hubby. Sweet. No sense in purchasing any for me though as our APs are expiring & we can't afford 4 this year instead of 2 (our 2 year olds turned 3) especially with increase in cost

In that case, I hope you have an especially wonderful trip.

It's such a bummer when kids age out of the "free" years, isn't it?

I was looking at a Sunday place to eat lunch/breakfast as well and we decided upon the Brunch at the other popular musical spot, Ralph Brennan's. I picked that place for a couple of different reasons: Ralph's was quite a bit less expensive, they still have a buffet for the kids and there are no seating times. I wanted my Sunday morning to a be a bit less rush rush for a change as the Sunday is kind of in the middle of our vacation.

Thanks. I'll check it out. Less expensive sounds good bit I was really looking forward to the gospel part. I'll definitely look at Ralph Brennan's though. Not having a set time sounds goo too. Thanks for the tip!

My mom and I did the Gospel Brunch in November 2011. We enjoyed the music and the food both. The service was very friendly and the food was good (though they didn't have individual eggs, just omelets from some sort of egg mix or mixture, which seemed to really bother the folks waiting behind us in line). I didn't mind the fixed seating time...actually, my mom was meeting me and she got delayed, but we both got in "late" just fine, and had no problem eating more than enough. :)

The only drawbacks for me were the amount of time the whole thing takes up out of your Disney day, and the cost. I do think it's worth trying once, but I don't know if I'd go back just because of those two issues. It appears the amount of time won't be a concern for you, so I'd say the main thing would be the cost. Is your daughter interested in/excited about the music? If not, you might want to skip it.

Keep in mind the tables are shared, too, so it's practically certain that you or your daughter (and most likely, both) will be seated next to strangers. For extreme introverts (like me) that may not be so fun. For extreme extroverts (like my mom) that's a great part of the experience.

Not sure what will be offered at your buffet, but to get my money's worth, I probably should have seen how much prime rib I could eat. :rolleyes1
