We get this show on BBC America too. Is it popular over there? I was kinda suprised at just how blunt that American designer lady can be. We wouldn't be that blunt with each other. She made a nasty comment about baths in Britain last night. Surprised that cutie Alister didn't deck her.

Hi,
I agree she does come across as blunt, but then the fact that people are viewing the property and NOT buying would suggest she is right. I guess it's a case of "the truth hurts" but if I had a property I couldn't sell and someone knew why I'd want to know how ever they choose to tell me...:teeth:

Mick.

:smooth:

I have just watched an episode of the House Doctor. Although I would agree that Ann Maurice does come over a little blunt there are lots of things that she says that I have actually adopted in my home. I de-cluttered our spare room and what a difference it really did make.

Most of the people that actually appear on the programme want to sell their homes and move to other ones.

You never really think that other people will not like your home as much as you do.

I agree with everything she has to say. I've sold four houses myself, and I've become pretty good at clearing them out. It's just that she's sooooooo blunt. I mean there's got to be a nice way of doing that. Maybe it's just for TV?

I love this show::yes::

There are lots of repeats on the cable channel Style.

Ann Maurice knows her stuff but some people are so stubborn:rolleyes:

Blunt makes better TV than sugar sweety stuff, plus some people need a reality check.

I do think in the UK we take blunt a lot better than America generally does. If you look at Simon Cowel on Pop/American Idol , when the show first started in the USA a lot of the contestants were truly shocked by what Simon had to say to them, even when they were TRULY awful.

:wave2: Steph - I love House Doctor and Ann Maurice is so funny when she comes up against someone who disagrees with her. The best example I can remember was actually with an American woman married to a Brit who really didn't like what Ann was saying - made for excellent viewing.

She really doesn't like doggy smells, but has one of her own who does sleep on her bed:eek: They did two shows once with her house in San Fransisco and her holiday home down in Mexico - totally unlike what I thought her own homes would look like::yes::

Maybe we'll get those shows. I'd like to see her houses.

We have a similar show over here, but I can't even remember the host; so they must not be very impressive. It's on HGtv, which is a great channel for crafts, decorating, gardening, etc. Not that you guys spend a lot of time watching the telly over here. ;)

They do have a website with some neat stuff.

Ann Maurices's homes are really not what you would have expected.

I could not believe it when they told you that she had pets because she comes down so hard on people on the show with animals.

I suppose you have to remember that those are her homes which she does not want to sell whereby the people on the show do want to sell theirs.
