How many hours per day does your child spend in school (including travel time) and doing homework. Age of child, grade in school?

DD9 - 4th Grade - 8 hours 45 minutes from leaving the house to arriving back home - homework - about 30-60 minutes a night (depends on whether she applies herself and gets it done or whines about it and drags it out), plus she reads 30 minutes a night.

3 days a week she stays an hour after school for sports.

She has 5 hours total between the time she gets home and the time she goes to bed. That's time for homework, play, watching TV, bath, supper, etc.

My nephew is 7 and is in 2nd grade. He does 8 hours and 20 minutes bus and school time. Homework right now runs around 20 to 40 minutes depending on what he has.

DS(11) grade 6. Leaves house at 7:20, returns home at 3:00, spends 45 minutes average on homework per night.=8 hours, 25 minutes

DS(10) grade 5. Leaves house at 8:00, returns home at 4:00, spends average of 1 hour per night on homework.=9 hours

DS(8) grade 3. Leaves house at 8:00, returns home at 4:00, spends average of 20 minutes per night on homework. =8 hours, 20 minutes

Really interesting to see it all on paper like that. They spend more time in school then some people's work-day!!

Freshman in HS/14, leaves at 6:45am (school starts at 7:05) and returns at 2:30 (ends at 1:55), unless a club day then its 3:45ish IF I pick up or then it would be 4:30 is tak'n late bus home, NUTS!
Homework is usually 5 nights a week and so far seems about an hour-hour and half, though my DS uses school time, ie lunch and end of classes to "do" H/W to avoid doing it at home. He is also one of the "few blessed" that does not STUDY like crazy but seems to ABSORB like a sponge :thumbsup2 and does very very well even in his AP courses.

DS (14) 9th grade-Bus pick up at 6:55 drop off at 2:55 1-2 hrs of homework almost everynight. Total 9-10 hrs. :scared1: Thats not counting sports or clubs. It seems like a lot spelled out like that! Thats longer than my work day.

DD 10 (5th grade): 6 1/2hrs in school, 2 hrs homework minimum + 30-60 minutes reading

DS15 (10th grade): 7 hrs in school, 1 hr of homework

figure that one out!

DS 14 Highschool Freshman leaves at 7:40 home at 3:15.....Honors classes 1 hr night

Ds 11 Middle school 7th grade leaves at 8:40 home at 3:50.....3 hrs a night homework...way to much.....

DS 7, 1st grade: Leaves on the bus at 8:20 a.m., gets off the bus at 4:15, so almost 9 hours.

About 10 minutes of homework, mostly reading with a bit of math.

Sophomore - 15.
I'm out of the house by 6:30am and back by 2:45pm.
Homework is about 2 hours a night, but keep in mind a lot of it is make up work. I'm caught up in one class, have minimal work in 2 others (>5 worksheets and 2 projects) and have A LOT of work for Spanish III.

DS is 10 and in 5th grade-school + transportation 7 hrs 45 mins. About 1 hr-1 1/2 hrs of home work per night (this includes regular work and 30 mins of reading). This also doesn't include 2 hrs of football pactice in the evening.

My daughter is 8 and in 4th grade- she get the bus at 9am and is in the door at 330. so a total of 6 1/2 hours. She gets about an hour of homework Mon, Tues and Wed- Thursday is only about 30 minutes. She is supposed to read 20 minutes 4 times a week but normally she ends up reading and hour and a half- 2 hours on the weekend so it evens out to 80+ minutes for the week, I don't care if she does it all in one day or spreads it out.

DD12 - 7th grade.

School starts at 7:05am (which is first period for the kids that have orchestra and band), school day ends at 2:35pm. My daughter stays after school about two or three days a week for clubs/activities, which dismiss at either 3:30 or 4:30.

So, her average day in school is around 8 1/2 hours. The amount of homework each night varies, but I'd say she spends about 1 1/2 hours on that.

DD 8 yrs. old, 3rd Grade. Leave for school at 7:10 and comes home at 2:55. We do between 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. of homework & studying M-Th. This doesn't include the 30 min. of reading we are to do each night.

Sometimes we are just really overwhelmed. It's definately alot. Plus we do dance twice a week.

I am still in school.

So Me[17]: Senior in highschool. I am part of dual enrollment so I get up around 6:00 and don't have to be at school untill 8. School starts at 7:05 for everyone else. I get out at 1:35, usually have some type of meeting until 2-2:30. On Mondays/Wedensdays I go out to the barn and take care of my horse until 5:00 and then go to my Dual Enrollment Class at the community college. I get out of that at 7:00, on mondays I get home around 7:15, on Wed. I go to church for youth group and don't get home till 8. I then have about 1-2 hours of homework or studying, plus laundry, college applications, and scholerships to fill out. On the other days of the week after school I go to barn to take care of my horse until 4 or 5, then usually have work from 4-close meaning I will get home around 10, where I do homework and so on.
& then there are days like today where I had no homework, no work, and decided to take a break from barn and did absolutly nothing. It was awesome. :]

DD-5- Kinder Catches bus at abotu 8, gets home about 3:45. 15min to 30 mins of homework about every other night. if shes practcing her name ( fine motor skill delay) its take abotu 45 mins for her as she drags it out.
