My daughter has asked me to go to Bangor (from Fredericton, NB) for a day of shopping probably sometime in late April or early May. Neither of us have a passport. Will we be able to go through with just picture ID's? Has anybody tried this yet since the beginning of this year? We do it every year, but I'm worried now because of the new rules.

Thanks for your advice! :thumbsup2

No worries. We cross pretty regularly and there are no issues for driving across with photo ID and Birth Cert.

Arrivals by land will not need a passport to enter the U.S. till (at the soonest) January of 2008.

We have crossed the border at Houlton several times in the last year with no problems and all we have is photo Id

I went from Fredericton to Houlton a few months ago. The boarder patrol didn't step out of the building. Didn't ask for my name or ID:confused3 Just ask where we were going and when we were coming back.

I told him I was going shopping just for the day....

Thanks for the replies. I knew you guys would have the answers! :thumbsup2
One more small question...how much can each of us bring back if we're just going over for the day?

We just came across the border at Houlton last weeked from our trip to Disney. No problems at all either way. Birth certificates is all they asked for. He also asked if we were all a family and how much we were bringing back into Canada. He was a great experience.
