Hotels stays on Katella since the security change?

Has anyone stayed on Katella since the security change that ended being able to cut through the GCH?How was the change? Did everything go smoothly? How long did it take you to get to the parks? I am trying to decide between Stovall's and BWPPI. I have seen the information about distance, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has done it. TIA

Friend of a friend lives south of Katella, and I ran into them at M&F on Friday. They said now that they can't cut through GCH they've been driving more.

Did they happen to mention if security was slow going, or if it was just the change in distance?

Another friend of a friend, who I ran into during the last week of Christmas (so capacity crowds) said DLH is the best checkpoint. We were talking about how when it's busy at M&F they make you cross the tram area exit to go through security and then cross back in front of an unloading tram to get into the loading area. He said he's been walking because there are so many lanes compared to the foot traffic. The number of lanes hasn't changed at Harbor, but I've been mostly parking at TS anyway. I did M&F once on a park day and three times this past week to go to DLH for the expo. When I went to DTD I stopped at my car first, so I haven't been through the DTD checkpoints yet.

You could look for a hotel near TS and take the shuttle from there.
