I need to book a couple nights at a safe (will be travelling with just the kids) hotel as close as possible to Onaping, ON (near Sudbury). Hotel just needs to be safe and clean (will only be sleeping there).

Any reccommendations would be really appreciated.

Thank you

I have driven Toronto to north of Onaping many times and only stayed outside of Sudbury once-there are a few roadside motels (no chains) and B&B's. Sudbury is only 30 minutes away.

In Sudbury, I've stayed at:
Holiday Inn - most amenities, depends on rate you get
Travelway Inn - clean & basic, always reasonable rate at Science North.
Most hotels are dated but I see there are some new ones (Homewood Suites, Hampton Inn and Fairfield Inn) which should be nice.

I'm sure your visit includes Onaping Falls but thought I'd mention in case you didn't know about it.

I live close to sudbury, and there isn't much around Onaping like previously mentioned!! Just some Mom & Dad places, which tend to be not bad!! My husband worked in Suds for 4 years, and drove back and forth to Manitoulin Island everyday, (1.5 hour commute each way) Needles to say in northern winters he got stuck there fairly often!
All of the holiday inns, travelways, travelodge, quality inn and so on, are again ok! Prices for motels/hotels in Sudbury are fairly high for the most part, probably higher then most. It is hard to find deals on them. Staying in sudbury fairly often, I am going to rate them this way, Homewood and Hampton first, both very new, and great breakfasts that are included. Fairfield Inn is nice because it is close to the theatre, all shopping and restaraunts! After that take your pick!
Also a great restaurant in Sudbury with great food, and if you have kids 10 and under even better! Is Buzzy Browns, it is very close to the homewood and hampton,, and on sat and sun nights kids eat free. There food is awesome, and reasonable priced. If you have any questions about sudbury and area at all, please feel free to message me, as I am very, very familiar with the area!

Do not know much about the pricing in Sudbury but the newest are the hampton and homewood (share the same parking lot). Right down the road is the Holiday Inn.

The Hampton and Homewood are not even on google maps yet.

These are located at the entrance to Sudbury if you're coming north on Highway 69. From there you can take the Highway 17 bypass to Highway 144 north right to Onaping.

Places to eat near by , Swiss Chalet/East Side Marios

Oh ,, Trivia ... the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato stayed at the Hampton when they were filming Camp Rock 2 last summer :)

I had to laugh when you wrote that about the Jonas Brother's and Demi, my 10 year old is a huge, huge fan, and we normally stay at the Hampton, or Homewood while in Sudbury. We had just came home the week before from surprising her with the Jonas Bros concert in Toronto, and it we my hubbies and I's anniversary, we have people over for dinner, she comes running out on the deck, screaming at us, they are in Sudbury, they are in Sudbury, let's go, let's go. So I did some poking around but by the time I confirmed they were there, they had already left! But we did get a piece of the camprock set, from a friends camp in the French River, she was excited about that!

I think I will go with the Hampton Inn since breakfast is included. Thanks for the hotel advice.

Can anybody tell me about Onaping Falls?

Onaping Falls is located right on Hwy 144 with a snack bar and restrooms. The Falls are the subject of paintings by A.Y. Jackson (Group of Seven). I would visit if in the immediate area or interested in Canadian art history but probably not a destination trip. There are a couple of hiking/walking trails that go up to the top of the falls with bridges over the river - I can't recall the distance or time to complete trail (I'm thinking about 1 hour).
