My daughter is attending Georgetown University in DC this summer. We are in Disney the week before (girls only) and are either driving or flying to DC to meet my husband and son. I have only been to DC one time, and I didn't plan the trip. I have no idea where to stay. We will be there two nights, and there are five of us. It doesn't have to be luxurious, but I don't want a dump. It also doesn't have to be right in DC, although that is what we would prefer. Any suggestions?

There is a place called Georgetown Suites at 30th and M.--about a 10 block walk to Georgetown Univ. but not necessarily safe at night.

If you want to do other stuff around DC and be close to the Metro then I would consider the Embassy Suites in Chevy Chase Pavillion. It is just over the border into Bethesda and right at a metro stop. There is no metro in Georgetown, so you would have to drive there (about 10 minutes)

There is also a Marriott over the river in Roslyn, VA. Probably closer to Georgetown and also has a metro stop nearby.

Thank you, I'll check it out. It kind of scares me a little about safety at night. What is the university like at night? My daughter is obviously an adult, but I am concerned about her. We live in a very small town, and she attends Mount Union College, which is a small liberal arts college in another small town. Anything else I should know about DC?

You can get really good deals downtown on Priceline, if money is any concern. It's a quick drive, cab ride, or metro ride to Georgetown.

I think Dan is saying that this question has been asked a lot lately, if you would like to do a search-- if search is working, now??

It's a big city college, so a lot different from a small town one. She should use caution accordingly and try to walk around Georgetown with a group of friends at night, instead of by herself.

Have you ever visited the National Cathedral? I would recommend doing that on your trip, it's gorgeous.

Is that what that means?! LOL, I wasn't quite sure. Actually I did try to search it, but as you said, it just hasn't been working for the last couple of days.
