DH surprised me with tickets to go see New Kids and the Backstreet Boys in Chicago in June and we're wanting to make a weekend getaway out of it. Any suggestions for hotels in Chicago near the United Center, the Museum of Science and Industry and the shopping (the Maginificant Mile?) Nothing really fancy but nicer than a Holiday Inn (somewhere around $100-150 a night if not lower?)

Thanks!

We've gone a few times and quite honestly I can't remember the good places (names) we've stayed but can say don't stay at the Allerton. It was awful--this was 10 years ago, maybe things have changed. We were in town for an Indians game (weekend) and didn't make reservations prior. They were the first with an opening.

The last good place we stayed at was on the north side of the city, walking distance to some clubs, had a pool and this little (chain) bakery right across the street and a diner either in it or attached. It was a chain hotel. It was clean and fairly nice. If I can find our map, I'm sure I can figure it out.

We only live a little over an hour out of the city, so anymore we just drive in... tolls and gas are cheaper than the hotel room (not by much anymore though).

Have a good time.

I haven't been there for awhile but the 3 places you mentioned are not really near each other. I wouldn't stay near the Museum of Science and Industry, it's not really in the best of neighborhoods.

The best place I've stayed at in Downtown Chicago is the Doubletree. It was nice, close to Michigan Ave, the rooms were big and roomy.

Hotel rooms are pretty expensive in Downtown. Depending on when you are going I don't know if you could get a really nice hotel for $100-150. Plus if you drive parking is very expensive.

I have to agree $100-$150 in Chicago is questionable.

Our favorite is Embassy Suites at State and Ohio, very convenient stroll to the mile. The Hampton Inn on Illinois is almost around the corner, maybe a little cheaper, but still includes breakfast.

I think leaving your car in hotel parking generally runs about $40 a day.

Thanks for the responses, I've only been to Chicago a couple of times but haven't stayed there. I've been on several of the travel sites (Travelocity, Trip Advisor, etc.) and have found a handful of hotels that are in the general area we're needing that seem to have favorable reviews (Club Quarters Central Loop, River Hotel, The Whitehall, Central Loop Hotel) and are in the right price range. I think it's a matter of checking pricing and see who comes up best.

focus more on the mag mile location...the Unted Center area is fine for an event, but not really for vacationing...same with the MSI. Remember to factor in parking costs at the hotel usually at least $25 a night.
