I'm looking at a May trip and will be staying offsite.

I've decided to try to stay in the Harbor Boulevard intersection area.

I'm going solo and even though I'm pretty unconcerned with walking at night and pretty safety conscious I know it can be an issue.

I will have no car.

I would prefer to walk than pay for shuttle or taxi. (or be bound by a shuttle schedule)

I have some allergies so I need a microwave/fridge/coffee pot more than a free breakfast where I will only be able to have bacon, apples/banana and peanut butter (based on other mid rage hotel breakfasts).

I will not be swimming and could not care less about in hotel dining.

Since this will be offsite I would prefer an interior hall but if it's a decent hotel with good security then outside access will not be a deal breaker.

I'd like to stick to the $100 to $120 range but would consider $150.

The best reviews I have seen that seem to be the best fit (well except for interior halls) are Best Western Park Place and Park Vue.

Does anyone have any great experiences at any of the other HB intersection hotels? Are these two the best of the bunch? Is there any thing in this area with an interior hallway?

I've decided to try to stay in the Harbor Boulevard intersection area.

What intersection? With Katella? Or you mean across the street from the main entrance?

We love Park Vue! I think the only nearby hotel with interior corridors is the HoJo, which is a little bit of a walk (but closer than, say, hotels/motels at Harbor and Katella).

I have stayed at the Best Western Park Place and have reservations to stay there again the end of January. It's right at the signal where you cross Harbor to go into Disneyland. Its a great hotel, and if you're not driving you won't have to pay the $10/day parking fee.

I know others like the Tropicana and Carousel, Fairfield is close, HOJO is a bit further to walk. Dis Unplugged did some reviews of some of these if you want to search for them.

FYI - we were able to get AAA discount at the Best Western Park Place.

Desert Inn and Suites might work for you too. They have a microwave and fridge and in room coffee pot. If you can have eggs, they do have hard boiled eggs at their breakfast and fruit (apples and oranges when we were there). The fruit and eggs were all I could eat too (can't have gluten)!

I never felt unsafe walking across Harbor to get there. There are so many people out walking, even at night, between DLR and the hotels. As long as you are walking back within an hour or so of park closing there will be ample other pedestrians.

As others have mentioned, Hojo's is probably the closest on Harbor with an interior hallway. I have always felt safe on their property and walking to the parks from there. Most of their rooms have microwaves and they all have fridges. If you call them directly they have a Disboards discount which will help you get a better price than what you see online.

For what you want, it sounds like Desert Inn & Suites, Park Vue, Camelot Inn, or Tropicana Inn would all be good options. Prices fluctuate, but I have usually stayed at these places for around $105-$115 a night. They all have fridges, microwaves, and coffee pots. They are all right across the street from the main entrance and it is a safe walk. Unfortunately they don't offer interior hallways, but very few of the hotels around Disneyland do.

I just stayed at the Camelot Inn a couple of weeks ago for about $110 a night and was very happy with my stay. I also just booked the Desert Inn for next April for about $105 a night. I've stayed there before and have had good experiences.

I've already answered, but now I'm at home, and can hammer out a little more information since I'm not on my phone! :)

It looks like your requirements are:
Near the main entrance
Safe neighborhood
Microwave/Fridge/Coffee pot
No care about in-hotel dining or pool access
Interior hallway, or safe lighting/parking lot
Top budget: Approx $150

Park Vue may (or may not) be just above this price range, depending on the room you pick. I think my Feb trip is about $145 a night, plus tax ad resort fees. Remember to add in a 17% tax for your room, which many sites ignore telling you about ;) That being said, I personally feel it's worth the price. It's right across the street from the pedestrian entrance, the rooms are big, the beds are super-comfy, the towels are large and fluffy, the breakfast is worth at least $7-8 (probably even more--it's better than the IHOP in the Park Vue parking lot, LOL), and it's a 3-minute walk to the security tents! They have gone above and beyond to make sure we were well-taken care of, from an amazing hot breakfast to re-opening our room after check-out when I realized I was missing my engagement ring, to calling nightly to see if they can improve our stay in any way. It's a small motel overall, which means even if you get the "back" rooms, it's still a *very* short walk! I've stayed at the Desert Inn right next door before, and had a room in the middle, on the second floor, and it just seemed to take so long to walk to the stairs to get to our room! (Total first world problems, huh?) Both rooms we've had at Park Vue had a microwave and fridge. Coffee pots are standard. It's a safe, small parking lot, with good lighting, though no interior halls. While there isn't the interior halls, it feels safe, as there is no where for anyone to really "hide" to do any dastardly deeds. I've stayed there with DH, with DH and DD, and with just DD, and never felt concerned about our safety. The whole DLR is pretty safe, especially on the Harbor side, where most of the hotels and motels are.

While I know you mentioned you don't really care much about the breakfast, I thought I would attempt a list of their breakfasts anyway, because it's much bigger/better than what I've had at many higher-level hotels.... Over the weeks we've stayed there in the last 2 years, we've had:
Biscuits and sausage gravy
Scrambled eggs
French toast sticks
Waffles
Bacon
Sausage
Hashbrown patties
Fried potatoes
Toast
Bagels
Fresh fruit/melon pieces
Yogurt
Multiple juices
Hot Cocoa
Coffee, with available to-go cups!
For some reason, I'm thinking there were also pancakes one day.

And did I mention that walk? Oh so short at the end of walking 10 miles in the parks!

totally thread bombing but how does the fridge in Park Vue compare to the one at Desert INn? The one we had in DI was bigger than most standard hotel fridges IIRC.

For the above reasons, I really want to stay at Park Vue next trip. I have egg, gluten, soy and dairy intolerances, and with the exception of fruit, there's really nothing I can eat for breakfast at DI. Plus, my kids love waffles :)

Thanks for the details.

Their breakfast does sound a little more diverse. I am limited due to multiple allergies and breakfast is the hardest meal for me to eat out so I tend to bring safe foods to eat in room and avoid breakfast out.

Wheat, buckwheat, oatmeal, rye, dairy, egg, strawberry, and pineapple here. Breakfast out usually means bacon, potatoes and a banana for me at almost every vacation breakfast, and sometimes the potatoes and banana are hard to come by.

Are yours allergies? no outward reactions, though as I work toward cleaning out my gut and liver, I notice I get red and have immediate stomach distress now when I eat them.

I won't break out or anything, but I will feel pretty crappy. The last thing I want to do is start my Disney days feeling sluggish and yucky!

My son is allergic to everything I am, plus peanuts.

I have stayed at Desert Inn, and I remember pastries, toast, cereals (none where gluten free if I remember correctly), fruit, juice (apples and oranges) and milk. As far as foods they offer, you're pretty much limited to fruit.

I'm curious, what do you pack for breakfast at hotels? I'd love ideas!

Yep allergies. Luckily they are mostly skin reactions (kept having crazy eczema so they sent me to an allergist after normal topical didn't completely solve the problems). They were concerned the pineapple could be more serious, burning and itchy tongue, but so far nothing serious. Combine that with environmental allergies that cause asthmatic reactions and my life pretty much gets a total make over in 2014. I also am lucky that I have some tolerance so eggs baked in items is okay in small amounts, even milk as well as trace cross contamination exposure is okay every once in a while, but large amounts or too many hidden exposures and I rash out like crazy so I avoid as much as possible.

I had to let go of my idea of traditional breakfast.

Some things I've traveled with are.

Shelf stable 'milk' in soy or almond. I've used both the lunch box sized and the quart boxes. Travel fine and doesn't need refrigeration until opened.

Cereal (chex, corn flakes, or bakehouse granola found at target no gluten or oatmeal)

Rice crackers

Gluten free bread if I have access to a toaster.

Canned/Pouch Chicken breast weird but it's a protein. I've also traveled with the pre cooked bacon that is vacuumed sealed from Oscar Mayer. But I had it in a cooler bag with ice on a car trip.

Bullion powder. Okay that's a weird one but I just like it.

PB2 This is a powder form of peanut butter that can be reconstituted with water. It's also low fat. Sometimes I do reg PB but the PB2 is lighter and takes less space. Also Justin's makes small single serves in almond butter.

Instant Grits. I had to work up to these. I really miss oatmeal and cream of wheat but this a close replacement and all it needs is boiling water and a little salt and a splash of milk. It can also be added to easily (bacon, cheese substitute, fruit or sugar if you like sweet) for variety.

Pringles :lmao:

Fruit, Dried fruit, or purée pouches.

I also have some breakfast smoothie pouches that are organic and gluten dairy free and shelf stable. I found them at walmart and they are from a brand called Sprouts Organics. Have flown with them multiple times in checked baggage. There only one that is safe for me but they have lots of varieties.

Kind bars. Not my favorite as they are too sweet for me first thing in the morning but I take them as a late morning snack if I skip breakfast.

I've done these on car trips and checked luggage. I'm tempted to freeze some daiya cheese and the vacumn packed bacon, put them in an insulated cooler (take an empty Baggie then ice them after I pass security)and see if they stay cold on my flight to WDW later this month. If I have to throw them away I will but I think it would be interesting to try.

Thanks! Awesome suggestions!

I do have PB2. I'm also allergic to almonds. I found out because I started getting severe, like I needed Vicodin to control the pain, stomach pains and my regular physician couldn't figure it out. I suspected an almond allergy but she dismissed it, and since I felt better (after avoiding almonds) she just let it go. :headache:

When we go to DL, we will likely go to Target or Walmart, and health food store (DS drinks oat milk) so I can pick up some stuff when we get there.

I have heard eczema and allergies go hand in hand. My daughter has asthma and eczema. I recently had her tested for food allergies but she came back negative.
