Hotel within Walking Distance worth staying at for itself?

Nothing available at any onsite hotels Nov 30? That surprises me-have you tried calling?

That must be killing them..... they had hoped for mid-June at one time.

Its killing a lot of people, including my family! They were set for mid-July, and we could have and would have stayed there. Now they are saying August 25, which rules them out for us, and for most summer travelers! We have made other plans. Even if they do some sort of soft opening, they will be too new on our trip to take chances. Wouldn't want to spend what they are charging and then deal with heavy construction noise, or no pool, or something because they are still finishing things up.

What are your dates?

The Grand Californian is a tremendous hotel and remember, the only hotel built by Disney. The other two were acquired from the original owners, but I'd say they've done a great job at the DLH and a good job at PPH in Disneyfying the hotels.

If you are coming in August or later, the Courtyard Marriott Anaheim & Water Park should be open. It is across the street from Howard Johnson's, so easily walkable.

There are TWO Springhill Suites, Maingate and Anaheim Resort. Despite its name the Springhill Maingate is no where close to the main gate, avoid it. The Springhill Suites Anaheim Resort Convention Center (the complicated, long official name) is great. Probably my top pick right now off site. The Residence Inn Maingate is nice, much nicer than the Ramada, but even it pales next to the Springhill Suites.

Can you expand on your opinion of the Springhill (the good one)? We are staying off site and have reservations at another hotel, but would totally be open to changing for the right place.

Sorry guys! West coast newbie...didn't mean to confuse anyone with the DLR reference! I would love to stay at one of the 3 Disney owned properties. NOTHING is available for my dates. We will be there apparently before a bunch of nice, new places open!

We will be there July 12-17. My kids are 13 and 10. We don't mind walking a few extra blocks. Just told the kids we were going and the first thing they asked was where we would be staying!

Anabelle and HoJo are both sold out for our dates!

I just booked Springhill... thanks so much for the input everyone. I spent a bit more than I wanted even with the AAA rate, but the more I thought about it, the more I decided that having a nice place to come back to really does make a difference to us.

You know, if they would unexpectedly announce a soft open for my dates in mid-July, I would totally give it a shot! I have a one week stay booked at the Fairfield with a Marriott certificate and I could easily switch it over to the Courtyard. It would have been the icing on the cake for our vacay. It is unlikely that the stars would align so well again (although I can hope LOL!)

The "good" Springhill Suites is at the corner or Harbor Blvd & Katella Ave, so easily walkable to the main gate. It has great rooms, a roof top pool and CVS pharmacy in the base of the hotel that has groceries, snacks, beer, wine, liquor, pool toys, beach towels..... just everything.

The "bad" Springhill Suites is bad only because it is NOT easy walking distance. It is on Ball Road and a long walk to the main gate. You are better off walking to Mickey & Friends parking garage and riding the tram.

What does RIAM stand for?

I think they meant Residence Inn Maingate, but I've never seen it abbreviated Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate before.

Seems like a great price for the Marriott this fall Soma! Can anyone clue me in to exactly where this hotel will be? I've tried google maps and I'm just not seeing where there is room for another hotel. I can see where the new Holiday Inn is, but where is the Marriott Waterpark??!!

It is across the street from Howard Johnson's, in front of the new Holiday Inn Express. It is where the Fox Theater used to be many moons ago.

Here is Google Maps Street View showing all three hotels (HoJo's right, Courtyard middle and HIE left).

You just have to pay attention to the hotel websites.

Here is the Courtyard Anaheim Hotel & Waterpark. I believe it is the same ownership as Howard Johnson's (which by the way has a water "play" area, not a water park, it is nice for like 9 and under). They should be open in July.

Here is the Holiday Inn Express & Suites. They should be open in August.

Here is the Hyatt House Anaheim Resort. Opening in December 2015.

I can't find the Homewood Suites website, but it is right next to the Toy Story Lot, opening in November. It is NOT the one in Garden Grove. Some more info below.

Here is the Great Wolf Lodge. No opening date, but not in 2015 for sure.

The three hotels at the GardenWalk haven't started yet. The new Marriott Residence Inn is about halfway done, it is 2016 sometime.

The Springhill Suites at Katella & Harbor is open, so is the Hyatt Place.
I booked the new Homewood Suites for December: http://homewoodsuites3.hilton.com/e...m-resort-convention-center-ANADLHW/index.html

I tried to price the new Courtyard and it's not letting me look at prices or book for any dates earlier than Sept 25. Is anyone seeing differently? I'm interested in prices for Sept 20-23. Looks like a cool place!

AimKo: Did you check getawaytoday.com for pricing? They are very reputable and have excellent customer service. For your dates, the Springhill (Convention Center) is about $258/night, including taxes for a double queen room. It's slightly higher than that for a kid's suite (bunk beds). If you book through their website, this hotel requires you to purchase park tickets as well. However, you do not have to purchase the park tickets (although a good deal), if you book by phone with a getawaytoday rep. They also appear to have on-site hotel availability too, if that's what you really want.
I booked my September trip through them for a Springhill kid's suite for less than I could find anywhere else, including AAA.

To be honest, this is why we rotate every few years and go to wdw, the hotels are just too awesome! In DL we do not take breaks, it is a park focused trip, in WDW we plan break days and enjoy the resorts. DL is still worth it though, but it is a different kind of vacation.

Most of the places on Harbor, especially north of the convention center are motels, not hotels. I would definitely put the Ramada Maingate in the motel category. I sometimes see people refer to them as hotels or even resorts and they are probably disappointed for expecting them to be something they're not. For a non-park day look for local attractions. There are car rental places nearby and public transportation on Harbor. There's also DTD and the GardenWalk. I'm not surprised there are no on site rooms leading up to the 17th. You could try a split stay and start on site, then move. Expect to pay a high rate for anything available at this point, though.

Not trying to be snarky here, but what exactly do you people use your computers for. Expedia shows availability at all three Disney properties for the week of November 30. You just check on Disney website and call it quits? I've seen many posts in the past where the poster says no availability, and never bothers to go further.

OP is not looking for November dates (that was someone else). She is looking for July dates.

I'm assuming you must be aware that 7/17 is the official anniversary date (& may be extremely crowded at DL)? No wonder there's no availability on-site!

Me, too. I have HOJO booked as we are going early August, but I was really hoping the Courtyard would open early. Oh well. We have a 1-night stay scheduled there in October. Not quite as long of a trip as our August one, but at least we'll know based on that if it's a good hotel for future stays.
