Hotel Suggestions

Hi Everyone -

I'm thinking of going to Disneyland after Thanksgiving. I'd like suggestions for a hotel that's within walking distance of the parks.

I was looking at the Hilton and Marriott, which claim to be two blocks away. Is one closer than the other?

Any other thoughts on the subject?

Thanks for any and all information. :flower3:

We have stayed at the Hilton... my opinion is that it's not as nice as most Hiltons and it's too far to walk. Consider the hotels on Harbor across from DL. Much closer and a better deal.

Respectfully disagree with the above poster. The Hilton is fine. Just be aware that it is a convention hotel, so it is large and can get very congested and crowded at times. If you stay there, call to see if there will be a convention during your dates. There is a Starbucks in the lobby (wifi free to hotel guests only) and a small food court in the back. It is closer (by a little) to the parks than the Marriott. If you want to earn points/use points, the Hilton is just fine. Ask for an upper floor with a park view so you can see the fireworks and WOC. Just know that the parking is expensive ($16/day?). The walk is about 15 minutes or so, depending on the traffic lights. We also like the Sheraton Park (next hotel east of the Hilton) on Harbor. Also on Harbor and closer to the parks is the Candy Cane Inn -- very nice, small hotel with great customer service, free breakfast, and a private shuttle. I haven't stayed at the Marriott because I read about one person's very bad experience with the parking there, so we choose either the Sheraton Park or the Hilton when we need to be close to the convention center. Hope this helps.

Here is the view the above poster mentioned. This was a premium park view room at the Hilton. The view is ok, but you can get a much better view at the Paradise Pier Hotel for about the same price. You can tell how far away it is from this picture too. Long walk!

-also the view has changed a little. This was taken in March 2011. You can see Cars land beginning to be built.
Also- as you can see from the picture there is not a view of WOC from this room.

We had a corner room on a high floor at the Hilton that was much larger than any room we've ever had at PPH, was much cheaper than being on property (we used the Hilton Honors website for rates), had views of both WOC and the fireworks (make sure to request these views when making your reservation), and came with a Disney gift card. How far is too far is a totally subjective decision for each person. We don't find the Hilton to be too far at all. The PPH can be deceptive, too -- yes, it is "on property," but it is farther away than it seems, especially when carrying tired kids and pushing heavy strollers -- and there is no option to take a shuttle. (According to this article, http://www.mouseplanet.com/7280/How_Far_Is_It, the walk from the PPH can be about the same as the walk from the HoJo's. Who knew?) Personally, we'd rather stay at the Hilton or the Sheraton Park for a great rate (can be significantly less than the on property hotels) and have more money to spend in the parks. For us, the savings alone is worth the walk. YMMV.

Thanks for the responses. The link showing where each hotel was very helpful. I have bad knees and really can't walk very far, so location is very important. I was looking at the two Marriotts, but they have outside corridors. I'll be traveling alone, so I really prefer a hotel with indoor corridors.

Are any of the hotels across from the entrance a "hotel" rather than a "motel"?

Thanks.

I'm not familiar with them. We usually stay at GCH. You should start a new thread specifically asking that in the title. There are a lot of regulars on here that can answer that question.
That being said- I think the Camelot Inn has interior corridors. http://www.camelotinn-anaheim.com/

As far as I know, all the hotels across from the parks on Harbor are motels or have a motel feel. The Candy Cane Inn has an advantage in being on the same side of Harbor as the parks (so you don't have to cross the street or wait for the light at the crosswalk) and it has its own shuttle which runs On Time (!). For a small motel, it is quite nice and the premium rooms come with some nice luxuries (like breakfast delivered to your room and complimentary bathrobes). Definitely post a thread asking about the indoor corridors. The topic has come up before, but I don't remember which properties were mentioned.
