Hotel suggestions on coast?

Not sure if this is the right forum or not, but I couldn't find one better--mods, please feel free to move to a better forum if I hit the wrong one.

DW and I are starting to think about next year's vacation. DD really wants to go to the beach, so we're currently thinking about doing 3 days at WDW and then 3 days on the coast.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel on a good beach within fairly close proximity to Orlando? We'd like to get one where we can go right down onto the beach area, if possible. We know that the gulf coast is supposed to have several good beaches like Siesta Key and Clearwater, but aren't tied into that area if there's something better on the Atlantic side, for example.

It's the east coast of Florida but what about "DISNEY'S VERO BEACH RESORT"? It's really beautiful and peaceful and not a far drive from WDW. Try this link for more information:

It's difficult to make recommendations, w/o knowing your price range. I normally suggest people go to the gulf coast, because IMHO the beach & water are both nicer. That said, my DH likes to go to the Atlantic for a short visit once a year to play in the waves. The water at our beaches (Gulf) is as calm as a lake. No waves there. We've avoided Daytona for a few years. It just wasn't our thing. This summer, I found a resort that had new management & had been totally refurbished. It's also away from the party crowd, which makes it even more appealing to us. It's called Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores. It isn't cheap, but it's a fabulous resort. The rooms are opulent & the CS was the best we've experienced in years. They are right on the beach, as well as having a host of other ammenities. From now on when my DH wants to be a little kid in big waves, we'll be staying there.
