We are spending a few extra days in Orlando before heading to WDW in January. I'm looking for suggestions for a nice hotel in the Orlando area (close to things like Universal, shopping, Idrive, etc.). It's just me (26) and my fiance (28) so I'm not worried about kiddie things. We are just looking for something nice but not over the top expensive. I'm thinking of maybe one of the onsite US hotels or something nearby. For a reference point we are spoiled by being DVC owners and love the Poly, SSR, BCV, BWV :goodvibes

A hotel with "things to do" like a spa, places to eat, nice pools, hot tub... you know something like that.

We are not going to that Travelodge again :scared:

Thanks for any input!

But we just booked the Embassy Suites by the Convention Center on I-Drive (and trolley route). Looks to be central. Two room suites, so a living area with fridge and micro. (Love the Hilton beds)

Indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs (a real perk for our January trip), FREE full cooked to order breakfast, evening manager's receptions, rooms all face an enclosed atrium, sauna, steam room and fitness center.

Not sure how much the Peabody hotel normally runs (went on the company's dime) but it is fabulous and they give you free tix on the I-Drive Trolley which goes to Sea World, Universal, and the Prime Outlet Mall. They have a spa, tennis, pools, etc. The best is the march of the ducks in the morning and at night. Basically they have 4 or 5 ducks that live in the lobby fountain. They waddle out each morning in a straight line behine the duck master on a red carpet to music and jump into the fountain and then each night the reverse back to their duck palace.

Marriott's Grande vista is a beautiful resort on a golf course on the quieter end of I-Drive. You could rent a studio for the same price of a hotel room. You can check it out on www.vacationclub.com.

Another nice hotel is the Renaissance at SeaWorld.

Hope this helps you.

The three best choices based on your criteria would be Gaylord Palms, the Peabody, and the Omni at Champions Gate.

All of them are a bit less "kid" oriented. The Omni is on a golf course, the Peabody is centrally located on I-Drive, and the Gaylord is just lovely.

The Peabody wins for great food, btw.
