I just booked a summer trip to DL. :cool1: It will just be me and my 3 kids. We have AP's. We like to stay on-site. We've stayed at all 3. My DH likes GC the best and my DD likes DH the best. Since he won't be with us, I was planning to stay at DH. However, the price is much higher than at GC. The AP rates are high for both hotels. The summer special works out to $1460 at DH for 4 nights and $1056 for GC. Needless to say, we'll be staying at GC.

Isn't it strange that the DH is much higher than GC? Personally, I'm thrilled. Even though I do like DH better, nothing can beat the location of the GC!

Prices have been changing over this last month. Can you see how they are directing traffic?

Jack

I wonder if they sold out of the promo rooms at DLH already? That could explain the price difference.

I have noticed the price differential as well. I agree with pp, Disney is directing traffic. And part of DH is closed for refurbishment, but that was weeks ago...and I'm sure will be done by summer. Yay for GC (much better IMHO). :cool1:

Well, it's about supply and demand. There are less available rooms at DLH right now, due to the refurbishment (which, by the way, will not be DONE until 2012...) so they offer lower rates and more rooms available at a discount at the GCH (which they just added a new wing to, bringing the total number of rooms almost 50% more than what it was...).

The Dobies booked four nights in a standard DLH room in August (8/8-8/12) for $832, before taxes. The GCH rate OP booked was the same one we were quoted. So perhaps the DLH did run out of discounted rooms.

Wow! That's an awesome price! Did you go through any discounted sites or book directly??

What typically happens is that they only allot so many rooms at the cheapest promo rate. When those book up, the rate goes up to the next pricing tier and so on. It sounds like the DLH was popular at the 40% off promo rate and those rooms booked up early.

Thanks everyone. Makes sense now. I love staying at the GC. Love walking out and being at the parks immediately.
