First, let me start by saying that DH wanted to go to NY to see the lightening of the tree at Rockefeller Center and I wanted to go to Disney. He wanted to do something "different" and I told him that if he gave me a chance this would be a "different" trip to Disney. He is such a sweetheart and gave me the chance to show him how "different" this could be.Just in case he is reading this, don't you just love him??.DH "likes" Disney, this is the result of many years going commando and needing a vacation after a Disney trip.He had no taken any time to "smell the roses" while at Disney. As you well know when you travel with "others" it is always hard to please everyone in the group,so, you are always "on the go".This is our first trip alone to Disney and we are planning on having a baby next year,so, I was running out of time to convert him into a Disney freak. Now, this is supposed to be a budget trip ,since, we are fixing our house, investing in a new apartment and buying a new car within the next few months. Also, he did not want to spend more than four days at Disney. The problem is that I am a hotel snob,we travel often and I only stay at least at a 4 star.I know, I'm spoiled!!Challenging, I know, but I've been reading these boards for the past year and a half, I am now an expert!!! I had said before that if I was to stay at a moderate I would only stay at CSR ,because, while doing "research" I found out CSR has a deluxe feeling to it.But, for some reason CSR didn't seem right for this trip ,so, I crossed my fingers and chosed POR instead.

Day one- We arrived into MCO and headed to Alamo and I was really worried about this ,because, in the past I've noticed that Alamo always has the longest line .I did get the best rate for a mid size with them ,so, I decided to give Alamo a try. When we get to Alamo to my surprise there were no lines.I had warned DH about the regular insurance or deluxe insurance pitch, but, to our surprise the guy who helped us did not push the insurance and even offered us an upgrade to a full car, minivan or convertible for $20 for our entire rental.Since, it was just the two of us we decided to keep the midsize and headed to pick up or car. When we get to the mid size aisle all they have are Malibus (yuck!!) and a 2 door Alero. While we were deciding they start driving the cars up and then park a couple of Stratus and Grand Ams ,we were heading towards the stratus when we spot a Camry.I know a Camry is a full size ,but, they parked it on the mid size, since, they had no more room in the full size aisle. We ask an employee if we would be charged for a full size if we took the Camry and he told us if they parked it at the mid size you pay for a mid size.We happily jumped in "our Camry" and left the airport.Yes, we were charged for a mid size :hyper: .

We arrived at POR and there was no line to check in.The CM checking us in was happy to inform us that we have a riverview room ,top floor with double beds...Wait a minute!!! Whaaaatt??:scared: No, I tell her we had a king bed, she tell us that she doesn't have any kings left .I then remembered that this was supposed to be a relaxing trip and I was not going to let little things like sleeping arrangements ruin it.Besides, at home we share our queen size bed with our 2 dogs and sleep comfortably:crowded: .We walk to our room and I notice we have a connecting room.Oh,no my peace and quiet alarm goes off and I secretly hope that we don't have noisy neighbors.I loved the room,it was so beautiful, the armoire, the flowers, I could go on and on,but, don't worry,I won't.I head to the bathroom and pick up the two boxes of Mickey soap and started to do a very goofy dance while singing "Mickey soap,Mickey soap"" :cool1: .Dh loved my Mickey soap dance and needless to say everytime we got back to the room I would grab the boxes and do the "Mickey soap dance".

We unpack and decide to take a walk around the resort.DH absolutely fell in love with this place, he kept asking how much we paid for the room ,since, he could not believe we were in a moderate. Also, he could not believe he was in Disney, since, the resort seemed so peaceful. We walked to the pool and ordered two beers at the bar.The bartender asked if I had an id and I responded with a huge smile :teeth: on my face, " Yes, I do". I love it when I get carded that means I don't even look 21.Nope, I'm not going to tell you how old I am, but, 21 was many, many, many moons ago.We sat on the deck and DH was actually enjoying himself so much, I instantly knew my mission was getting accomplished.I tell DH after dinner we should go to the Virgin store at Downtown Disney that I was sure that he could find a dvd for FIL there at a great price *Yes, this is part of my plan, if he finds a great deal at Virgin he would voluntarily want to come back to DD.Of course, this could of back fired, but, he did get 2 CDs and the DVD he was looking for for $43.DH sure was happy!! and so was his DW ;) .On the way out of the store,he asks me what we are doing the next day and after I tell him he says ,maybe, we should stay an extra night .. YES!!!!! We head back to POR and go to bed. I felt we had been showered with Pixie dust all day, it was a long and succesful day.:wizard:

I'm glad that your mission is going so well. DH seems to be well on his way to being indoctrinated, hahahaha. While you report that you are spoiled, you can' t be all that spoiled if some Mickey soap is going to get you to be so happy you gotta dance. That sounds like something I would do. It doesn't take much to make me happy.

Tell me more!

Sounds very relaxing so far!!! I always get carded - we bought some beer and wine at Winn Dixie in October when we were there and even after I showed the cashier my license she couldn't believe how old I was:teeth: Can't wait to read day 2

A great first day!! GLad you are working on another convert!!

Geez - Your DH is nicer than mine. When the kid in WM asked me if I was over 18 a couple of years ago (I was 36 at the time I think), my DH started laughing hysterically and telling the kid I was old enough to be his mother. The poor kid kept apologizing and saying well I looked so young (thank you dear.....). Tell me why I keep him around? He doesn't even like Disney!!! He is finally liking Ebay! I don't know if he is worth the effort!

I guess I am luckey. My DH is pretty much on board with the whole Disney mania thing. He lets me do all the plans and pick all the eats but he loves to go. He did think it was sort of funny that I saved one of the mickey soaps.... I do a happy dance every time I even think about going to WDW. I started planing our current trip (early June) about 3 months ago, and so far we have gone from 4 nights to 12! I just start saying things like, I don't think we will have time to see ALL of Epcot and he tells me to add on another day or two. I just told DH I want to retire there someday. ("So that has been your plan all along").

Good job on bringing your DH over to the Mickey side! I stayed at POR about 7 years ago and just loved everything about it.

That's awesome... I had the same experience with my friend, now she goes every year.

Excellent first day ~ Thanx for sharing.
