Has anyone had any experience with Hotel Royal Plaza in the DD area? Because there are five of us going in August for an extended vacation, I'm considering switching from 2 rooms at the ASsports to a room at the Royal Plaza - (I've heard the rooms sleep five and are roomy)

My only concern is that in August, do we really want to deal with the walk to the DD buses? The guidebooks say it's only a 10 or 15 minute hike, but after a long day at the park, in 90 plus weather, I wonder if my kids will be miserable on the trek back to the hotel. Or are there buses right from the hotel?

Another consideration is that we prefer quiet, smallish hotels - the ASsports is not really our cup of tea, and I wonder if the Royal Plaza would suite us better.

Any help or advice would be so appreciated.

I won this hotel thru Priceline and my trip isn't till December. So I hope you will post a trip report on your return and your experience with Royal Plaza. I called the hotel and asked them to send as much info as possible. From what I read the hotel has approximately 400 rooms which makes it fairly small. The rooms can sleep 5 people (2 beds and a sofa bed). It is approximately a 15 minute walk, however they do have buses that are shared by the other hotels and are not run by Disney. I hope this helps you out, if I find out more I will post the info. I have heard many positive things about this hotel, and can't wait for December to arrive.

If you are relying on bus transportation I would go with a Disney hotel. We stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza in August and found it adequate. If you search this forum you will find a LOT of posts about the hotel.

Enjoy your planning!

Mary at www.mousesavers.com has posted a lengthy review of her March family reunion. I stayed at the Mariott next door and found the non-disney scheduled transportation to the hotel fine. It would be about a 15 minute walk from the DTD buses.

If you are switching from 2 rooms to one, maybe you could use the savings and rent a car. That way you would be free to come and go as you chose and not have to deal with the walk.. Just a thought...

Thanks for input to those who took the trouble to respond!

I always like the idea of saving a few bucks, and the Plaza seemed like a good deal, but the kids informed me today that they really want to try the All Stars so I guess will stick with our original plan. We'll try the Plaza another time.

Thanks again!

I've stayed at Royal Plaza 3 times and each was a good experience. I certainly would recommend this hotel over All Stars. You get much more luxury and comfort for your money.

I have stayed in the suites twice and a room that had a sliding door that opened right to the pool. The pool room was huge! The suites were VERY nice with the bedroom separated by French doors and a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. Ahhhh!

As been suggested, you may be able to get a great deal on mousesavers.com.

Whatever you decide, have a great time!
