Hotel room rubbish

This is the final week of School holidays in NSW (my travel agent is counting down the days ;) )
So some have indeed have especially been going over the past 2 weeks. QLD and VIC generally are close by but I believe QLD started earlier...

We're in Vic, and my kids have been back at school nearly 2 weeks. But you're right, they are not doing anything much at school now.

I sometimes do not pack the same number of tops that I plan to buy as souveniers. Purchase the first day, a quick rinse out in the sink and the t-shirts are dry by next morning. Enjoy your trip.

We had to buy an extra suitcase on our last stay.

There were some REALLY cheap airfares to travel at this time of year :goodvibes

It was just too difficult to pass them up (that's what I told DH anyway :lmao:)

The tickets we got had to be used by the 31st November.

Australian's and Kiwis are great travellers - we don't think anything of a 13 hour flight Sydney - LA, and then on from there. And if not the 13 hours to the USA, most everyone else will travel 20 hours to the UK without thinking about it. In the workplace we have 4 weeks Annual Leave granted each year.

And I'm generalising again, but most schools don't worry if you take your kids out of school for an overseas holiday.

Note to self: move there. :)

Housekeeping will throw things away even if you don't want them thrown away...we wanted to *keep* the box that my son's stormtrooper blaster came in, and they tossed it after leaving it alone for 3 days...ugh. And we hadn't left any extra tip.

I wouldn't worry too much about it...just be sure to keep what you do NOT want thrown away FAR away from anything near the garbage can.

I might look at it another way.....if you stock up you may be using the things over time a few at Christmas, a few for birthday, a special toy when sick etc. In this case having them in their original packaging will make them much more special. Could you ship them home ? Or, if Mickey is hard to come by and these will be gifts over the next few years, is it worth the extra baggage charge? There is also the safety issue, almost nothing will suffer damage if left in the original packaging.

We have become expert packers of things. we have spent hours fitting as much as possible in our luggage in as little space as possible. Plush toys we have discovered DO survive being in a space bag so long as it isn't too tight.
Stitch had to do that.

Our main thing to do is to compact. Some things we WILL keep the packaging of...say a board game...and pack other little things in it as well. There is SOO much wasted space in a board game box.
MANY things we have put in our suitcase out of the packaging and it has survived perfectly well.

Postage is not as easy an option as it used to be...cost wise. There is no longer surface mail. Our last trip we started in Hawaii and got a LOAD of things on special and lots of toys and so on and we had to mail them home because taking them through Europe on multiple flights just wasn't an option.
About US$200 later we mailed 2 medium sized boxes....and this was with LOTS of things rearranged and out of their boxes. Although any box/packaging we could flatten we flattened and put in the mailing box to reassemble at home. But the rates are steep.

I honestly wouldn't worry about keeping excess packaging just to have it for the future if it is just wasting space.
...if it is for your own kids for christmas they will chuck out the packaging anyway so just wrap it nicely out of the packaging when you decide to give it to them.

HAVE FUN!!!!!!!
