So we are planning to go in December. My friend is hoping we can stay at dolphin's cove where she can use her points. I suspect by the time we can nail down dates it will be sold out.

So can I make reservations at the DLH and cancel if we are able to make other plans? I am actually toying with making reservations at DLh and HOJO and deciding later which to use. Has anyone done this before?

Right now I can get DLH for 245 a night in early December, is this a good deal or not?

It seems like a lot to me. We booked a suite across the street for $79 a night in December. It's not the DLH but my goodness will it save us some money.

$245 is about average for the DLH these days. In fact it can go higher. Yes, you can definitely stay cheaper but as you know, its about personal preferences and how much your budget allows you to spend. I would book now, it will only go up as it gets closer. As I recall, if you are just booking room only nights (not a package) you can cancel with no penalty. I would call them directly and see. Also, make sure you mention if you have an AP or AAA, that can bring that rate down a bit.

I like your idea of booking the Hojo as well, that will leave you with plenty of options open. And just like the DLH, those rates will only go up as it gets closer.
