Hotel recommendations for gulf side

We are renting a house near Orlando but have time to visit the ocean as well. We would like to go to the gulf side and are thinking of Tampa Clearwater area. We would love to visit Sanibel Island as well, we have three extra days. So any reasonably priced recommendations? It is not necessary to be on the water we just want a nice clean family friendly place to stay.

I am further south (Naples) so can't refer you to a specific place, but I always check AAA (online) for how they rate hotels,as well as Trip Advisor.

I have found most Hampton Inns can be clean and comfortable. I like places that have refrigerators.
