My wife and I will be driving down to FL in 2 weeks from Ann Arbor, MI, and we think we will probably stop overnight in the Valdosta, GA area. Does anybody have any experiences at any of the hotels in that area close to I-75? Or any other good places a little bit farther north or south?

Thanks!

There isn't a whole lot to choose from there...I know that because I was hoping for somewhere 'nice' to stay when we decided to go up to Wild Adventures Park with some friends the summer before last.

We did go with the Hampton Inn, and we had a clean room and free breakfast. Good experience overall (as have been our other Hampton Inn stays elsewhere.)

Happy Travels!
:)

One hour further down I75 is Lake City FL. I seem to recall a lot more hotel choices there. I think there are: Days Inn, Best Western, Comfort Inn, and a Holiday Inn.

I have traveled that way many times from Michigan. We have stayed in the Comfort Inn in Macon. It is located on I-475 I believe it is the last exit before remerging with I-75...there is also a Cracker Barrel restaurant there. A little further down I-75 in Perry is a Holiday Inn...reasonable rates, clean rooms and pool and a restaurant that has some super southern food. The last time I stayed there...we were given a complimentary drink and kids ate free. Both hotels are very reasonable, clean and had security. I hoped this helped you out. I will be heading that way in November. Have a great time.:)

Well i can't speak from experience but we are going to be stopping for the night in Valdosta on June 21st. We haven't booked anything but i have been thinking about the fairfield inn or the holiday inn. There is also a holiday inn express.

I read somewhere that people have gotten the fairfield and holiday inn on priceline for about $30. I don't know if i am brave enough to do that for a driving trip though. so i the cheapest i have found otherwise is an Entertainment rate at the holiday inn for $44.50. You to have the ent. book though. Otherwise most rates seem to be $70ish. good luck

We did the same thing a few months ago and got the Fairfield in for $27 on Priceline. Friendly staff. We had a clean room and comfy bed. You can see the hotel from the highway.

I, too, was going to suggest the Fairfield Inn. It's near the Cracker Barrel (a Southern chain restaurant -- wonderful breakfasts!), and it's very close to I-75 (no wandering off the beaten path).

I just got brave and tried priceline for the 1st time! I got the fairfield inn, valdosta for this saturday night coming up (21st) for $28! I tried $27 and it didn't accept it but i upped it and added 2 star and i got it. I had no idea what i was doing or if i could have done better but with only 5 days left till we leave i took a chance.

My other choices were paying the $69 on the marriott website or i could have gotten the holiday inn with an ENT card rate for $44.50. but no free cont. breakfast with that.

Yeah i'm so excited it was nervewracking but fun i really felt like i won something (and i never win anything):D :D

The Courtyard Marriott in Valdosta is a newer, clean, well maintained facility. It's a block or two off of I-75 across from the mall. They have a neat little lobby area with internet access, and a nice pool and small exercise room. The breakfast buffet is pretty standard. As you know, the pickings are pretty slim along the I-75 corridor from Macon to Tampa; if you want to break up your trip in Valdosta, the Courtyard is a nice choice.

There is a new Sleep Inn at exit 18 in Valdosta and a Clubhouse Inn in the process of switching to La Quinta that is very nice. AAA rates were fairly decent. Also, if you pick up those discount traveler booklets at any rest areas between Atlanta and Valdosta there are several good rates listed.

I always stay at the Hampton Inn in Valdosta when traveling to atlanta to visit my sister. Clean room, good breakfast and right off the highway.

Grotto,
We travel to and from Indiana at least once a year . We always stay offI-75. We found the nicest place to stay in Perry GA exit 136. Its a HolidayInn directly off the Interstate. It is Very very clean and you get a free "Full" breakfast at the Green Derby Resturant connected (bacon, eggs , pancakes, etc) We payed around $40. with a coupon in the travel room saver Mag you get at the Rest stops and Welcome centers. All my relatives started staying there too, when traveling . We just love It! Believe me we have stayed in some of the so called "Quality" places off I-75 that the rooms were just plain Nasty and breakfast was stale doughnuts and watered down juice.

Happy Traveling!
