Hotel / Park Package Question

Hi all, thanks in advance for your help!

After many, many nights in Disney, we are in the process of planning a night at Universal next spring break. I was in the process of booking through their website, when I had a question about cancellation, so I called their 800# for clarification and now I'm even more confused!

In a nutshell, I was trying to book a package that includes one night on-site with two-day park-to-park tickets. I did not want the Universal "vacation insurance" and when I inquired with the CSR he told me:

1. The room is 100% refundable if cancelled over 45 days from arrival.
2. If I buy the tickets with the package but don't buy the vacation insurance, the tickets are not refundable at all.
3. If I book the room and not the tickets (the plan would be to buy the tickets later), the room is still refundable, but I won't get the "CityWalk Party Pass" or the "Early Park Admission to Islands of Adventure" because I bought the tickets separately.

So, my question is, does it matter when I buy the tickets (with the package or not), or by virtue of staying on-site will I get the items the CSR said I wouldn't?

Thanks again, let me know if I need to clarify anything!

Scott

if you are staying on site, it would be cheaper to book room only and tickets separate.

you can cancel your room 5 days out and no penalty. (which would be 6 days before your arrival)

full refund for your room if you cancel within the policy.

tickets never expire.
buy them separate and if you do cancel your room, they will be good forever.
use them on another trip there.

Thanks for the info!

One more item - if I buy the tickets separately, do I still get all the on-site perks as if I had purchased them with the room?

the way to get the onsite perks, is to stay in one of the 3 onsite hotels.

if you stay one night, you get two days of the express line usage (and the other perks.)

you get that for the day you check in and the day you check out.
if you did that, book one night only, buy 2 day park tickets.

if you stay 2 nights onsite, you get 3 days of hotel perks.
etc......

buying the package will cost you more.
book the room only.
buy tickets thru universal or UT or another distributor.

if you buy a 2 day ticket and change your mind to stay longer, you can upgrade that 2 day pass to a 3 or 4 day pass cheaply.

you would pay the difference of the cost when you add tickets to what you originally purchased.

i'm glad to help.

i booked a package only once.
but, it was to my advantage financially.

i have been staying at the UO hotels since they went up and book everything separate.

but, the first 2 times i did the motherland, i did packages.
so, i learned by doing it both ways.

if you hear about discounts, you can call uo reservation and they will explain them.

or in this forum as many will talk about discounts they have received by mail, email or by calling UO.
