We still have not decided where to stay while we are at disney I started to book a hotel then they were hit by the hurricaines. We have decided to stay either at the wilderness resort (camp) or at a hotel off disney property they are almost the same price. If we stay at the hotel we have TV and AC those are the only things we will be without if we stay at the campground. The hotel has a shuttle but we can use disney transprotation if we stay there. My family is split down the middle 2 of us want to stay at the hotel and 2 want to camp. So I could use a little help we love camping but the only 2 things we are worried about, which might be silly, is bugs and rain. We are staying 10-28 thru 10-30 Thanks for your help!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Hello- This is going back 10yrs but my DH and I camped at FW and we loved it! I've never experienced camping quite like it. We rented a golf cart the entire time and what a great idea. The beach/ restaurants are wonderful. The campground itself was great- it had a cement pad and then a sandy bottom for our tent. The sand was like no other sand I"ve seen. It didn't stick to your feet and was really clean? Boat to MK was great. My DH is convinced they pipe animal sound through the speakers at night- I think he's crazy! Lots of things to do and see. We tried to get the cabins this year for myself DH and DD but couldn't get a good deal, maybe next year. Hope this helps.

Our first trip to Disney was at Fort Wilderness. We camped for 8 days (in a tent that strappd to the back of our van). It was on that trip that we purchased DVC. We have since camped, stayed in our DVC resorts and stayed off property.

If your goal is to have a blast at WDW it doesn't matter where you stay.

My kids think we are camping when we stay at an All Star as I still manage to cook meals in our rooms using an electric skillet, etc. When have been really lucky, we must live in bubble, we have never seen bugs except outside at any of the WDW resorts.

If you don't mind if it rains and you are sure of your camping equipment the rain shouldn't bother you either.

Good luck in making your decision and HAVE FUN!!

I can't imagine camping when at Walt Disney World. That just seems something you do when you have a weekend off and feel like going fishing, not when your going to see the Magic Kingdom.

We always camp at Ft. Wilderness and LOVE IT (2 weeks at a time) ... love having my own stuff around me, plus we relax a lot at our campsite, etc.

Anyway, it looks like you are only planning on a couple of days so I would recommend a hotel onsite ... why drag out all the camping stuff for 2-3 days?

Now, if it was a longer stay - I'd definitely camp!!

When we had our APs and would go over for a 2 or 3 day weekend we would get a DTD hotel through priceline. We camp in a popup and for only a day or two when you plan to spend most of your time in the parks anyway it was not worth setting up camp. The price was about the same either way. But at FW there is a chance your campsite will not be ready until 1PM and its a pain to go to the parks all day and then come back to set up camp. On your last day its the same problem in reverse. Now if we are just going to camp and hang out at the campground that's different. We love FW and do camp there a lot. But If the plan is to be in the parks I would rather not mess with all the camping gear unless its for at least 5 days.
