Hotel near San Diego zoo?

Can anyone recommend a hotel near the San Diego zoo for me and my DS 12? We are going to the tennis tournament at Indian Wells but we will be spending a couple of days in San Diego. If there is somewhere within walking distance that would be even better! Thanks so much for any help! I am not familiar with the area at all.

There's nothing within walking distance. The zoo is in Balboa Park, surrounded by other museums and a large amount of park land. So you'll probably need to drive.

When we went a couple years ago for a wedding, we really enjoyed Homewood Suites Liberty Station. It's near the airport and Navy base, but in a very pleasant area on the water, with both parkland and a small shopping center in walking distance. You can get 1 or 2 BR suites, and it has free breakfast. It's very reasonably priced, and top rated on TripAdvisor.

The only place I can think of that is in walking distance to the zoo would be http://www.balboaparkinn.com/ . It is a bed and breakfast and has very good reviews.
