Hotel Menage

My daughter & I are coming for a week in June. Just wondering if anyone has stayed here. It appears to be a little bit of a walk, but should be doable? How long does it take to walk to the parks? Do we have any other cheap option for transportation to the parks besides walking? Do you know if they have guest laundry facilities? I'm hoping to pack super light & wash mid-trip. What restaurants are good in the area? Thanks!

I stayed there last July for a night and I have to say I was sooo thankful to be checking out. We had a bad experience and I did not feel that the hotel was appropriate for a family with young kids. Now, for young adults it would probably be just fine considering the pool bar that kinda get rowdy at night! The hotel looks ok as far as appearance goes,but whatever you do, make sure you ask for a room on the side opposite the freeway when you check in. The freeway side is extremely loud..think sleeping on an airstrip when a plane is taking off..that sort of loud. I went down to complain but they claimed they could not move me as they were booked solid. I will say the restaurant serves good food and is relatively cheap!
As far as walking, no it is not walking distance, but the ART shuttle does stop there. They are pretty cheap if I remember right. I am not sure if they have laundry facilities because I was only there for one night. I would suggest looking it up on tripadvisor to read the recent reviews. Either way, enjoy your trip!

On tripadvisor, one guest said 1/2 mile walk & another said it only took them 15 minutes. We could handle that, but it is good to know that ART stops there, too.

We usually stay at Hojo. I have definitely seen people walking past us over the overpass. The Menage is the first hotel on the other side of the overpass. The distance is definitely walkable, and some people do it. I think everyone has different tolerances and expectations. If you are expecting a 15-20 minute walk, you will be fine. I would say that, for me, that section of walking over the overpass would not be enjoyable, but that doesn't mean I couldn't do it.

We've stayed at the Hotel Menage twice (June 2009, Nov/Dec 2011) and have had satisfactory stays both time. We didn't experience any rowdy crowds while we were there, but I imagine it could happen on a busy weekend? We've enjoyed the indoor bar area night both times with great happy hour food(sliders, etc.) at good prices.

The walk is definitely do-able - We've never considered taking a shuttle. I could see with younger children or babies, that the walk could be too much.

The only reason we aren't staying there on our upcoming trip is that they put those with dogs on the first floor that faces Harbor Blvd in rooms with cold concrete floors. It's not the most comfortable of surroundings, and feels a lot like being in a motel (while the rest of the hotel is only accessible by a room card).

I've stayed there a bunch of times, and never any complaints. But we don't have kids. It's about a 12 minute walk for us. Taco Bell is across the st. The last time I was there, they had two different ART buses that stopped there. I could see the fireworks from my room. I never cared too much about the freeway noise, because usually I'm so tired from the day at the park to notice. Great food in the restaurant with a heavy Hawaiian influence. (My boyfriend is from HI so he loves it) Frank at the bar is a great guy too. I believe I saw laundry facilities on the bottom floor near the lobby.

styaed here for a week in march a few years ago with hubby, it was pleasant, walk was do able but a pain up the over pass. LOL. ART has a shuttle to go there and during peak hours you can catch 2 ART shuttles- fireworks from the 24 hour pool was awesome! Rest. was cheap- staff friendly... laundry I think they had- not sure... have fun! Only issue we had was bumping our shins on the bed LOL!

This hotel used to be a 2.5 star Holiday Inn. They updated the bar and restaurant areas and now rate it at 3 stars under their newer ownership. The hotel has all outside rooms like many motels. The buildings and balcony walkways are rather blaw, uneventful but the room interiors are quite nice.

We had rooms facing the pool and freeway which can be noisy at night. We had our own car (hotel charges parking fee) so drove to Toy Story lot rather than walk. Adults may not mind the walk but I would not want to return late at night with tired out young kids! ART shuttles are inexpensive if you buy a multi-day pass.

We got this room on Hotwire for $65. A decent value but would not pay more as there are too many other nice hotels in the $70-$100 range although without a car choices become more limited.

Walking from the hotel to the parks in the moring is not so bad....but on the way back at night you'll want ART. An extra 15 minute walk, in the dark, after hours on your feet will seem like it takes forever!
I highly recomend Mimi's, which is across the street and up the block, near the Hojo's.

Was Toy Story parking and its shuttle more convenient than M&F and the tram? They are the same price, correct?

Yes they are the same price. I find the Toy Story lot much easier and faster. The buses run one right after another so little wait and the walk to/from gates and buses is a bit shorter and less crowded. But...the kids often like riding the M&F tram thinking its their first Disney ride or part of tradition since Toy Story is somewhat new! lol

to get to the Mickey & Friends structure you have to get into the turn lane immediately to flip a u-ey, then you just go back down that way. It might be worth at night tho, you would get back to the Menage really quickly. It just might be hard to get across 3 lanes of traffic into the turn lane as fast as you would need to.......

I've never stayed at the Menage, but I would not want to do the walk.....

Stayed there twice, just my husband and I. We wouldn't have wanted to walk, but we're also not in the best of shape. We took the ART, which was fine, but annoying and took a long time to get to and from the hotel during our mid-day break/nap. At least it felt that way. The main reason we haven't gone back, though, is that upon checking in, the front desk cheerily announced that we had been upgraded to a pool view room. I was like, okay... at least it doesn't face the freeway, right? Well, they neglected to tell us they were hosting some sort of party that night at the pool, which didn't end till almost midnight. The music and the people were SO loud. I felt like they should have told us. We're pretty easy going, but that was a pain. DH complained, and got some sort of discount to come back another time. Yeah, thanks but no thanks.

Thanks for all the feedback on the hotel. My daughter is 13, so I am not too concerned about the walk, but I am thinking the ART might come in handy to get our tired bodies back to the hotel or even to a restaurant or 2. We really want to eat at Bubba Gumps & Cheesecake Factory. They are both the opposite direction of the Menage. Am I right that we can get an all-day pass and use it on any route?

Will June 4 & 5 be noticeable busier because they are not blocked dates for CA pass holders? We have 6-day passes, so there will be 1 day in there that we will not go to the parks. Just trying to decide if there is a "better" day to not go to the parks. We do not fly in until 2:00 or so on June 3rd, but I know I will want to go that first night! So, we will need to take one day off during the rest of the stay (Mon.-Sat.).

Yeah!! I see you also have a WDW stay planned for Art of Animation......very exciting! That is next on my list. We have stayed at POP several times and All-Star Sports once.
