Hotel Menage Questions

I am looking into Hotel Menage for an upcoming trip, and I have a few questions that I couldn't find the answers to on their website.

Do they have baggage storage if I arrive before check in?

Do they charge any amount to your credit card when you make a reservation online?

The reservation web page says there are no cancellations allowed, is that a strict policy, and what are the cancellation penalties?

Anyone who has stayed there recently, I'd also love to hear your comments on the place, and the walks to the park.

Thanks!

I don't have any personal experience with the Hotel Menage, but I wanted to point you to a review of the hotel posted on the DIS Unplugged Disneyland feed in January of this year. As I recall, Tom's room at the hotel had a rather interesting decorating scheme (well, mainly the ceiling ... the pictures explain it).

Here's a link to the page with the podcast, show notes, and link to the blog entry with the hotel review

Oh my gosh! That looks terrible!! Maybe I could handle the pipes that are actually against the ceiling, but that vacuum hose like thing held up with wire!? Hope I didn't just book the industrial basement suite! I would have to request a new room... That is just too ugly! It looks totally fine otherwise...

Has anyone who has stayed here been stuck with this presumably 'standard' room? How many are there in this hallway?

Do they ever fill to capacity to where using these rooms would be necessary?

The Hotel Menage is great. I've stayed there about four times now. It is the only hotel that actively caters to adults. It is from the same people who have Casa del Camino in Laguna Beach and K'ya Bistro.

I've never had a bad room. If I DID get a room I didn't like, I'd switch.

Yes they do luggage storage, no they don't charge you before you stay and the cancellation policy is what it is. They are a small company with two small hotels and no shows would kill them.

Just to clarify, I emailed the hotel with these questions and they got back to me quickly with the answers that they do indeed offer luggage storage, they do not charge anything upon reserving the room unless you book the pay ahead discounted rate or the book early and save discounted rate. There are also AAA and AP discounts and a discount for staying longer, for government employees too.

Also, the no cancellation policy only applies to the 2 discounts listed above where you must pay ahead of time.

The hotel looks great and we are looking forward to trying it out. Anyone who has, feel free to comment with the details! How was the pool bar and inside restaurant? Did anyone walk to and from the park? Has anyone gone in their hotel pool in December, haha!

Just really look at the map of the resort area and see what the walk will be like.

We stayed one night there very last minute the end of our spring break trip because we were having so much fun in the parks and decided spur of the moment to stay another day. The rate was super cheap (maybe $100?) so overall it was worth it. However I felt it was more like a huge Motel 6 with some upgrades that tried to make it feel more modern. It has exterior hallways. The service at the poolside bar was really really poor. The pool was nice but it just wasn't 100%. While we were at the pool for about 2 hours, I saw THREE people slip and fall when walking on a certain spot on the pool deck (where there was tile as opposed to concrete). The hotel just wasn't professional and completely put together IMO. I also felt like questionable type of people started to congregate in the lobby lounge area at night. Definitely felt adult friendly and not family friendly. I will say that the valet staff were awesome! We drove to the parks (I have free parking) so don't know for sure, but it seems like a very far walk. In summary I would not stay there again. Our favorite place to stay offsite is Hotel Indigo. Check them out!

My wife and I are kinda hotel snobs. We usually don't stay at anything below 3/12 stars, usually 4 stars. That being said, we've stayed at the Menage twice now when visiting Disneyland and really like the value we get. As others have said, the rooms aren't amazing, but the beds are comfy and it's clean.

The real perk of the menage is the pool, pool bar, and happy hour on property. The common areas are awesome! We don't care so much about the rooms because when you are visiting Disneyland how much time are you really spending in your room? We did, however, use the pool and pool bar every afternoon from 2:00-5:00 and thought it was great!

It's about a 12 minute walk for adults from the menage to Disneyland. I'd say 15 with kids.

I'd recommend it if it looks like something you'd think you'd like and the price is right. I think we got our room for $100 a night.

Awesome! Thanks for commenting. I booked 6 nights in December for like 98 bucks a night! Super affordable, and I plan on getting my money's worth of the 24 hour pool...

The walk sounds totally do able, even though it is further away than we have stayed before. No need to catch a shuttle though.

Customer service seems to be on top of things, they returned my email inquiry within a few hours, which indicates they care about future bookings.

We've always had great customer service there too :-) I think you'll enjoy it, and you can't beat that rate!

Sorry to say I have to second the fact that it seems like a fancified Motel 6, they took what I think was Best Western and slapped a coat of paint on it and added some IKEA furniture and are now trying to call it a 3 1/2 - 4 star hotel. We stayed back in December and while I got what I though was a great deal on the rate, I would have been pretty put out if I had actually paid "normal" rates for what we got. Rooms were a bit worn/shabby around the edges and the bathroom was pretty funky (chipped/rusty finishes, etc). Customer service was pretty terrible too - we booked/pre-paid for a room with two beds and were assigned a single king, it took two phone calls with them insisting that there were no other rooms available and a trip down with our printed confirmation showing the correct room type for a manager to grudgingly agree to "upgrade" us to a room with 2 queens (we had 4 people in the room). Considering our "upgraded" room looked out across the lower roof area and the freeway I'd hate to see what the "regular" rooms look like.

It's a decent walk but you can probably do it in about 15 min if you don't have little ones.

If you get a good rate and aren't expecting much then it's an adequate place to stay, just don't expect a 4 star boutique hotel experience.
