We plan to spend the first 2 nights down towards San Diego, we also have a friend to visit in Encinitas.

DH has found a B & B he likes, Pelican Cove, in Carlsbad and I was wondering if it was too far a drive to San Diego, from there.

He would like play a round of golf at Torry Pines in La Jolla and I thought I might go to the San Diego Zoo.

At this point I'm not sure if our friend is interested in going to the zoo with me or if DH would have to drop me off before his golf game.

I believe it's about 20 to 30 minutes my boyfriend and I stayed in carlsbad when we went to the zoo and seaworld.

Your husband will need to get his tee time well in advance and most likely from a broker. It's very difficult for even us locals to get a tee time. He'll definitely want to play the south course.

It depends when you will be visiting since the traffic down I-5 or Hwy 1 can get really backed up.

Pelican Cove is at the north end of Carlsbad so you are 10/15 minutes from Encinitas.

With light traffic, Torrey Pines is 20/30 minutes from Encinitas. The zoo is about 40/45 minutes from Encinitas.

Traffic is bad going south from 7- 9:30 am and going north from 2:30 - 6:30 pm on weekdays year round. On Fridays, the traffic going north starts to back up around 1 pm. In the summer, the weekend traffic going south is stop and go on Saturdays from about 10 am until midafternoon, if it is sunny (people headed down to SD for a beach weekend).

If you are going to go during traffic time plan on speeds in the 20-30 mph range instead of +60 mph and give yourself enough time to get from point A to point B.

Thank you SANDIEGOFAN and CACruisin' for the great additional information!

Yes, I do remember the traffic from our trip last summer. :(

About a year and a half ago ,wife and i stayed at B.W. Seven Seas Lodge on Hotel Cir. They had free shuttles to the zoo and Sea World . :thumbsup2 Pretty nice place.
